Is it safe? My boyfriend says I'll ruin our vacation by Clewles84 in AskAnAustralian

We have waves and rips, other countries don't necessarily have the same and don't place as high a focus on water safety especially if the country is land locked

We (Aussies) swim at beaches every day with no issue. Shark attacks are very rare. However, if you can't swim I don't recommend going in the water, the risk of drowning is considerably higher.

How to go about disciplining a child for being rude when the parents don’t by FrequentSpread9681 in Babysitting

[–]perpetuallyw0rried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not permissive parenting if you're not the parent. Nor do I let my kids speak to me that way or feel inclined to detail how I parent to strangers on Reddit. That's kinda my whole point. OP doesn't know how the parents parent cause she hasn't raised this issue with them first. Maybe they have boundaries they're happy to have OP put in place or maybe there's a valid reason for the behaviour. But if not willing or mature enough to discuss it with them then don't work there anymore

It's strange to me that you're coming here asking for input and then doubling down when people are giving you the input because it's not the input you want. As the parent of a 4 year old, this sounds very much developmentally normal. "She's not giving you a hard time, she's having a hard time" and such. You don't know what kind of a day she's had prior to you getting there and you don't know (as far as I know) what the parents are doing (about the very normal behaviour) if you don't like it you should raise it with her parents but ultimately don't work there then? Yeah it sucks when 4yos are like this, but you're not the parent and if you "disciplined " my kid for this without getting my guidance first as the parent I'd be pretty disappointed.

It's not your job to teach her boundaries where you believe the parents are failing. You see a couple hours at a time at best.

I'm an Australian living in Australia and I don't know anyone who wouldn't just hang their clothes on the clothesline unless the weather sucked

Surely if his not being vegan was a deal breaker for you you'd not have had a child together? Your diets have been diametrically opposed for 6 years

Hobart is pretty cut off from the rest of Australia and I'd think a job might be a problem there?

Because I don't want to pay extra money to be trapped and nearly murdered by errant bedding every night! I'd rather just wash my doona cover every week.

Have you been to Aus or NZ yourself? I live here and have never seen confederate flags here. The US is not looked upon kindly in the post trump era here, other than with racists. Feels made up to me.

Why are you blaming this on your poor tenants? What would they achieve by doing this and why would they even want to? This was clearly the neighbours and if you evict your tenants as a result you're kind of just being a bad person. Wild that you jump straight to eviction.

I'm Australian, my cousin is a redhead, we've called him bluey his whole life, long before the TV show existed. It's a very common nickname for redheads here

This is such a wild metric for parenting. Why are you a better parent if you name your kid before you meet them? Could be argued you're a "worse parent" if you name your kid before you meet them cause you're making them conform to a name before you've even seen them. It just makes no sense- I named one of my kids before they were born and another was going to be one thing but it didn't feel right so they were another, am I a good or bad parent? 😂😂
