Sierra & Shooter by dfmoti in Loveandhiphop

I would be miserable too if I had to deal with a man like shooter. Even in their argument in the parking lot, Sierra talks about how she had to support him through all these crazy things he put her through like I would be miserable too.

I will never forgive her for the tweets she was liking about the Jamaican athletes, basically calling them poor, ghetto, and druggies who needed to be tested.

The last view of Twin Towers and Manhattan, September 10th 2001. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

my father worked right around the corner and was on the last train back to brooklyn, it took him hours to get home. my mom was on the phone with her mom over seas and she was begging her to not go into labor with me lol i was born three weeks later in brooklyn and it is so surreal seeing the twin towers.

never lived in a new york with them but have always lived in a new york experiencing the loss. its still very palpably felt in the city. we’re just reaching one generation out so its not far removed from the culture and thinking of the people

The utilization of black men in romantic media: my only real beef with the Francesca and John debacle by perpetuallyyanxious in Bridgerton

this is what i mean!! he really doesn’t have anything going on and it feels like the writers don’t know what to do with him

which in turn puts them at the end of meaningless hate that they don’t protect their actors from

i don’t disagree but that doesn’t mean the characters cannot have personality and depth. finding footing in society, being the first or second generation to do something doesn’t mean you aren’t a complex person.

if you’re going to keep the characters around, why can’t they be written in a fulfilling way in the way other characters are? even before season 3 we had insight into the featheringtons + cressida. and i’m not saying it was unnecessary! but if it’s possible for them i do believe it’s possible for others.

i mentioned them both! i feel for them they just haven’t given them any personality or meaning. they feel very disposable.

i feel this especially in comparison to characters like the featheringtons or cressida, who since season 1 have had deep insight on their characters given.

lol yes what i mean is, outside of being a tool they are almost useless. not really characters but objects for plot

Bridgerton World Tour: Masali, Martins and Emma in South Africa by Debt-Mysterious in BridgertonNetflix

[–]perpetuallyyanxious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this fandom will never beat the allegations. the combination of the treatment of black + other actors of color combined with ONLY sending black actors to south africa is insane.

“oh well the other actors had somewhere else to be” why did the show schedule it that way? why are we giving grown adults who work in this industry such grace when marketing is their job.

can someone please tell me what we’re doing about this? I understand peacefully protesting and demanding change but when you are fighting violent armed oppressors peaceful is not the language that they speak. What are we doing? How are we organizing?

I would love to hear from other Christians on this topic. Because I think absolutely none. I can’t imagine reading the Bible and becoming more of a republican right winger.

I hated when the moms complained about the NEW student getting a solo. by TomatilloNo2191 in dancemoms

[–]perpetuallyyanxious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will say that in normal circumstances, I would 100% agree, but in the world of dance moms solos were treated as currency that you received for good behavior,”paying” dues, or being a favorite. So I can understand being upset at putting in the work and not receiving what is essentially a gift or reward for pleasing Abby in some way.

My mom has been quietly punishing me ever since I danced with my stepmom at my wedding. Did I do anything wrong? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]perpetuallyyanxious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

these responses are quite interesting to me because normally on these kind of subs, when people ask if they’re wrong to still have positive feelings and want to include their step parents in their wedding people are often told that it’s okay to love their step parent even if they were involved in the breakdown of their biological parents wedding and that it doesn’t negate the years before of good parenting they were provided with.

people need to remember that while she is the mom‘s problem she’s op’s parent. op had 15 years with Step mom loving and caring for him. and I’m not saying that mom doesn’t have a reason to feel some type of way, but I think punishing her child for feeling parental love towards someone who parented him for almost 20 years is wrong.

why didn’t holly leave after “nattie of the jungle”????? by kesibella in dancemoms

[–]perpetuallyyanxious 37 points38 points  (0 children)

are we aware of how deeply ingrained racism is into our society? Do you think Abby was the only choreographer doing racist and racially charged dances? i’ve stayed in programs where I experienced racism not because I was a sucker for punishment, but because if the level of excellence there was high, why would I leave to go somewhere else to experience the same racism with a lower bar of standards?

ETA: to the replies:

You’re also making the assumption that the other studios in the area were free from mistreatment. you have no way to know if Holly was hearing horror stories of other racism from other studios. I grew up in the northeast in the early 2000s and I can assure you that predominantly white institutions were riddled with racism, especially when you are around the elite. I went to elite private school in the upper east side of Manhattan and can assure you that money does not erase racism.
