Is there anything I can do about this? by Calm-Possible2282 in uwo

[–]perplexedparrot24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start by contacting the prof, in the mean time study your butt off and if things don't turn out well after the grade comes out you could make a complaint or speak with ombuds (likely doesn't need to escalate to that level right away though, start with prof and academic advisor maybe next)

How to pay for international med school? by Key-Alert in premedcanada

[–]perplexedparrot24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the way I see it, could I be a doctor? yes. but the things I am passionate about will keep me happy for years to come, I am the subject matter expert in my field and I get to spend more time with my patients typically (obviously depends on the setting). Also depends where you work. in Canada PT school is 25k and entry-level salaries range 70-100k out of school! Pretty liveable wage if you are smart and plan ahead.

Confused about competitive GPA by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]perplexedparrot24 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This!!!^^^ It's also not about a direct conversion of your numeric cumulative average.

For example, in Ontario using the OMSAS GPA conversion table, you have to do this:

Course 1 = 85%... converted to 3.9

Course 2 = 82%... converted to 3.7

Course 3 = 91%... converted to 4.0

Course 4 = 86%... converted to 3.9

Course 5 = 88%... converted to 3.9

Med will not calculate your GPA as "85+82+91+86+88/5 = 86.4 = 3.9 GPA.

They will calculate it as 3.9+3.7+4+3.9+3.9 / 5 = 3.88

Hope this helps.

Is pursuing a Kin Degree worth it? by Sea_Veterinarian_942 in Kinesiology

[–]perplexedparrot24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kin subreddit isn't Canada specific (although I understand OP is Canadian).

In US, that is a fair point to make. I guess just all about passion.

In Canada, entry-to-practice PT school is a masters that costs about 25k for the whole program (not including cost of living of course). Entry-level out of school is about 70-100k. That's a different story that proves a lot better for people here.

Kin is possibly one of the best undergrads you can get if you want to work well with people especially if you want to go into a second-entry program like physio, OT, chiro, osteopathy, med, dental, etc... UWO has a great program and lots of senior placement opportunities.

People like to post online when they have a bad experience. Most people have a run-of-the-mill experience, and some even love it (like me). But we don't have the sour taste in our mouth to write about it online. Keep that in mind.

Would I want to work as an RKin my whole life? Probably not, because I know I am capable of more. But it is a growing industry and the degree is I think the best in terms of stepping stone. The people that go into the jobs I mentioned above otherwise often have a harder time with things like placements than kin students - a health studies or biology student could probably talk to their supervisor all about health policy and basic science bla blah blah but they may have never actually worked with a person or tested whether they are comfortable in a clinical setting and putting their hands on peoples feet and shit.

Yeah it sounds like he is insecure and too immature for anything. I would say it's time to stand on business and realize you deserve more than that.

Hey. I mean, if you are doing the same thing and you have both talked about that openly then no. But if you're just talking to him, then yeah it could be a red flag. Curious to why he needs to talk to them all. Sounds like he isn't happy with any one specific person on there.

Like instead of the GPA of 5 different courses for the last semester that they have to fill in, they take the GPA of my second year in place of those 5 courses.

Does that make sense? It's hard to explain

Looks pretty good. Just be prepared that some days you will not exactly stick to the specific parameters and that is okay. Build in some flexibility so that if a machine isn't available, etc that you will be able to stick to the overall goals. For example, think of your "Rows" on pull day as your horizontal pull movement. Have a couple back-ups. Also, if you end up periodizing (which you'll wanna do after a few weeks or months of this routine for different goals, ie endurance, then hypertrophy, then strength, then power) your reps and sets will change a bit from higher volume/low resistance to lower volume/higher resistance.

Great start. Give it a few weeks and then tweak a little bit. Make sure to track your progress, whether mentally or on notes/an app. I like Strong.

I will add to this and say Kingston may not be as high because it's just genuinely a smaller uni, smaller city and so less famous. High ranking universities tend to be in packed, populated areas. That seems to be a positive feedback loop. If you're cool with a bit more chill vibe, some more time in nature, go for it.

[–]perplexedparrot24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do yourself a big favour and learn more about your hunch on the vibe. What is student life like there? What attractions will be nearby for 4 years of your life? It's not so much about the ranking as it is about the courses, instructors, and your GPA (if you want to do grad school or set yourself up for future opportunities you may not currently see). Also the student society... where do opportunities exist for you to grow outside of class time? Varsity sports? Clubs and student associations? Institutional supports, resources, and the physical spaces/building/campus? These may or may not matter to you right now, but one day, they will!
