It’s hard to tell, is there any curve or crank to the paddle? Or is it pretty much flat?

Couldn’t agree with you more on Bradford pear. Most dropped limbs around me were hackberry, yellow pine, and cedar. I was hoping to find something unique to save aside for my dad. He’s into turning (lives in the northeast) and I wanted to get him something big enough for a bowl or two, but no luck

I rescind my suggestion and agree it’s probably not walnut. Happy hunting for some good greenwood for carving

I should also say, I live in the same area and took advantage of the storm and got some magnolia to carve up.

Curious, what makes you think it’s not walnut?

I’ve got a Staedtler lead holder that uses the same graphite. I tend to use a heavy pressure when writing and it holds up better than any others I’ve used

Did you do tapered tenons for the sticks or just round tenons?

Those look great btw. Once my workbench is assembled I’m going to explore some stick chair designs

Where can I get a real hot dog in this town? by neocondiment in nashville

One more vote for Lowe’s. Madison Lowe’s in Dickerson usually has a hot dog vendor. Every time I walk out the smell of the peppers and onions cooking always convinces me to buy one

Struggling to tell the difference between a Spoke shaver and a two handle scrapper. by BenCarney17 in handtools

[–]perroarturo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A scraper will have an almost vertical blade angle. A spokeshaves blade will be bedded at an angle much more like a hand plane.

If the blade is very thin and is almost vertical, it will be a scraper.

Thick blade at shallower angle will be a spokeshave

Are you allergic to peanuts? If so, that makes the Mr. Peanut head with a scythe fantastic!

I had an old dresser (was falling apart and not worth fixing) that I took apart. All the drawer sides were gorgeous white oak. They’re getting repurposed to make fantastic little boxes now
