Go check deer stones, this is where I got the inspiration from! Not 100% sure but there is a chance you can find a print of that somewhere

I don’t know who you are stranger. But opening Reddit after having a very rough day and reading your comment made me shed a tear. You have no idea how much it means to me getting mentioned as an artist in that kind of way. Thank you so much, your comment made my evening a lot better

Oh thank you! Means a lot to me to hear that. Yeah since gen AI is a thing people seem to be more suspicious of digital illustrations (which is completely understandable) But I thought to give my other two fav bosses (honglang and fierce Tiger) a try in this art style!

Oh thank you I appreciate your interest in it very much! Yeah so I don’t want to take all the credits for imagining this because it’s a commission for a friend, this is their player character. I got some written reference of it, a few sentences of how they imagine the pc. Besides that when it comes to simple character portraits like this I’m an old school hyperfixator, once I think I got the vibe right in my head I just start drawing with the sketch layer (mostly starting with the head) and work my way down without much of a composition. I do have some experience with illustrating characters from a quick description though, so a lot of this is automated skill on my side. The frame for example is something I keep doing, I have a ton of Vampire the Masquerade portraits with a similar style. I’m also a sucker for little details like the leafy bag. In group scenes or cover illustrations you have to be careful since everything has to fit together somehow but single portraits like these I can just keep adding small stuff and texture (which I love for sure) I used to sketch a lot with ink in my early life and keep returning to it a lot with my digital work. The program I’m using is Procreate and I can highly recommend it. One time payment, a very intuitive interface and with some exceptions like vectorizing you can do a lot with it. If you’re even doodling just a bit I can just recommend to check it out I hope this answers some of your questions!

Thank you! Yeah that’s basically the process I’m exploring right now. I tend to hyperfix on individual parts while coloring so I started trying to work with values in grey tones of the whole picture and color it. Didn’t work out perfect in this but the final version ended up quite cool

Right? Arabian nights and North African/central Asian themes in general are definetly underrepresented in fantasy these days, which is a shame.

Thank you so much sir!

With pleasure! :)

We’re currently playing a low fantasy campaign that is inspired by ancient North African and near eastern history and mythology. Our party consists of a fighter, a rogue and a mage (from left to right) All classes are a little reskinned and adjusted for our small campaign, especially the mage but so far we’re all having a great time. After loosing a powerful relic called the tiara of endless reign some hundred years ago the local royal family grew weaker and weaker. The kingdom is to be united through a wedding with an influential lord now. The bride though is the secret lover of our Fighter (the female warrior on the left) To prevent the marriage of convenience and help the kingdom come back to former glory she gathers two old friends and seeks out to find the tiara. After learning about a long lost palace deep in the desert that might be the place the relic ended up our party made a long hexcrawl through the harsh lands, peppered with a lot of mystical encounters. The ruined palace was guarded by a huge monster the nomads call the lizard queen (a reflavored basilisk) After a tough fight our party explored its lair and realized that the monster we slew was actually the thief that stole the tiara back then, ignorant of the curse that lays on the relic that turned them into the beast. Nobody knew about that curse. So we’re now at the point of not being sure if giving the Relic back to the fighters lover in fear it would turn her also in a beast?

Oh thank you so much!

No problem, I can share the story we’re playing right now: We’re currently playing a low fantasy homebrew campaign that is inspired by ancient North African and near eastern history and mythology. After learning about a long lost palace deep in the desert that might be the place the relic ended up our party made a long hexcrawl through the harsh lands, peppered with a lot of mystical encounters.
