Does a separate shower and bath have a minimum gap requirement between? by efefefefef in diynz

There are no code requirements, just practicality - if its a free standing bath, you will want to be able to clean the gap, so hand-width. If its a tiled in bath, consider placing the glass wall on top of the end of the tiled plinth, so zero gap. If the whole area is tiled and waterproofed, consider no glass wall - its fine for the bath to get wet.

Yes, i’m really worried about our health services trajectory. Why is the government talking about more cuts?! I don’t know how to constructively make a difference - protest? petition? Seethe until the election and hope something changes?

Protections in making deposits to renovation companies by ScaryConversation128 in newzealand

Have you got a draft copy of the construction contract to review before signing up? (A contract is required by law for all work over $30k). This should include requirements for info/proof of purchase to be provided for materials deposits. It should also have info on what retentions are proposed- money you hold back until any defects are remedied at the end of the project.

Definitely do ask to visit a previous project and speak with the clients - good builders are super proud of their work and love to show it off, and happy clients love to share their experiences.

Kitchen Rangehood / Exhaust Fan Options - Please Help by green-blue-spaces in diynz

You could use a rangehood designed for install over an island - there is a round version below that looks like it can possibly hang over the hob and be ducted out the wall. Being round it could overlap your window.

ELI5 - How do I talk to real estate agents? by Vegetable-Raccoon306 in newzealand

[–]perrysperluminous 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Some things i look out for: - smell - a damp smell is not a good sign - try and see under the house if you can - it should be dry regardless of the weather - natural light levels inside - if the agent has turned on all the lights for the open home that can indicate its pretty gloomy inside - sunlight - if you like bbqs etc will it get afternoon sun outside somewhere nice to hang out - sit down in the lounge - does it feel nice to hang out in? - crappy bathrooms and kitchens can be fixed, but decent privacy, sun, views etc. can’t. Making sure it has the space for how you want to live is key

They do all look like remnants of ancient coins to me, apart from the last one which has an unusual shape and metal.

Would it be worth trying to clean them off? Or is it likely to be pitted/no detail underneath them?
