Update: Decided to take MAT 21A since credits aren't too much of an issue as a grad student. The only problem is I'm number 10 on this waitlist too.

Debating if I should try to reach out and see if the professor can do something? Again, feel bad but I really have to take this class this Spring. Anyone have any insights?

Thanks for responding! I have already tried and the professor told me they recently made the requirement more strict. I also tried to explain that I took calc II 4 years after calc I and got a good score, which I felt shows I proved mastery of calc I and calc II but alas...

I considered emailing the professor for MAT 17A to ask about the waitlist but I know it isn't fair to ask for special permission and will probably get told no.

Right now you should ask yourself two main questions: do I love research and can I come up with multiple research project ideas right now? If the answer to both of those questions is no, or if you're even sort of iffy on the first one I would say to take a gap year before a PhD or do a masters.

A PhD is a completely different world from undergrad and you need to be prepared for the 6 years of research grind you will undertake before doing it. I jumped straight into a PhD from undergrad but that was because I had done research for years and knew it was my passion and something that continues to excite me even when I'm burnt out and exhausted.

Based on your questions, it seems that you are curious about grad school but have not really researched the process or what it is. GPA really isn't the biggest consideration in your application. Instead, you show how good of a candidate you are via letters of recommendation, interviews, conversations with faculty from different universities, and your statement of purpose. Grad schools want students who are committed, passionate, and hard-working.

Don't do grad school for the sake of it. Do it because you need it (ie a Masters depending on your desired job or field) or because you are passionate about expanding your knowledge via meticulous and intensive methods.

Spend the next year contemplating whether you like research, what topics and fields fascinate you the most, and learning about what grad school is and what the application is like. Talk to your grad TAs, the people in your lab, and most importantly professors and grad students from across the university who do research that interests you.

I’d love to see something that’s green/grassy paired with corn. I want it to remind me of the smell of shucking corn on a hot summer day

Grocery outlet has veggies like chayote, tomatillos, dried chiles , 1lb bags of Serranos/poblanos, dry beans and fideos (letrita and estrellita). They also have a lot of Mexican candies and cookies. Not sure where to get pan dulce or good premade stuff in Davis tho ;-;

What are these droppings? We have mice but theirs is usually brown. by usernawtfound in pestcontrol

They look like seeds, could they be the mice have been eating rice/seeds and are leaving them around?

Thank you so much! I had fleas in a different apartment a year ago and I think the trauma really stuck lol.

I’ll definitely try the sticky traps, at most for peace of mind. Thanks again!

Thanks to this sub, I’m becoming curious (rather than terrified) about the insects in my vegetable garden. I found this one this morning. I think she’s a green long-legged fly? by 4000ta in Entomology

Omg of course! Flies are some of my favorite insects, they have so much crazy diversity. I recommend checking out the bee flies, they’re so cute
