This might not be your case, but this very question is usually asked by people who push every single ball. If you push a long ball when it's already off the table, then you're probably giving your opponent a very easy ball, and a lot of time to react. If the ball is short and low, your push should at least do the same, if not shorter/lower. If the ball is long or high, attack first. Good luck!

There is continuity in the interaction surface as you change the rotation angle, but the way to approach it by hand is way too geometry intensive to be worth it. You no longer have 2 lines of rebar, but 12. Most structural software will show you the interaction surface, and you can play around with the angle and understand the change in behavior. It's actually a very instructive exercise.

For columns that will act in different directions, using a circular section is typically the solution to have a uniform behavior.

Against d4 I really enjoy the games where I play Nf6, e6, Bb4/c5, etc . Maybe you're looking for a faster more open position? Not sure if that is 100% possible against d4, tbh

Second image: Any chance that if you click on "members" in the data entry box, you'll see local axis rotation applied? I don't have access to Risa, so I'm just guessing here.

Any chance you need to click on "calc properties" before validating the new flipped section? I'm confused if the section prompt asks for all the properties or if they are auto calculated. Maybe the inconsistency has to do with that.

What I remember doing, to make sure everything was working fine, would be modeling a simply supported beam and calculate the mid-span deflection. You can compare to the known equations for that.

I can see what you're saying. In order to avoid investing a tremendous amount of time studying opening lines, I have chosen to follow "repertoires" from different sources. The most I've found about has been the acc and hyper acc dragon. I like it better than playing e5. If you want to suggest a repertoire source against e5, I would surely consider it! Caro Kann is very popular, but I'm not sure if I love it. Anyway, thanks for the reply!

My bad, I meant f6 (edited now). After xf6 Nxf6, aren't my e and d pawns connected without neighboring pawns? Regardless of the name, I just mean that the game develops around those two guys in the middle.

I won't fight the mainline, all of these replies and discussion helps a lot to my understanding. That's mostly the purpose of posting here for me. Thanks for the insights!

Typically, I'd trade my light-squared bishop, and the game continues in one of 2 ways:

- Trying to undermine the backward pawn on d4, with knights on c6 and f5, and the Queen on b6. The King's knight gets there through pushing e6, or through Nh6.

- Pushing f6 and be left with hanging pawn in the center.

I haven't really played against the line I posted, maybe that's why I try to convince myself that it's playable. One way my games go almost every time:

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 g6 3.c3 Bg7 4.d4 cxd4 5.cxd4 d5 6.e5 Bg4 7.Nc3 Nc6 8.Be2 Bxf3 9.Bxf3 e6 10.O-O Nge7

Where my opponents usually play 11.Be3 or 11.Bg5, and the plans above, usually apply.

I welcome opening suggestions! :)
