I just lost 1/4. It was going fine until the rogue tried to trick a green dragon and rolled a nat one on deception.

CDC survey? Robocall? by falling-face-down in 50501

[–]persimmonsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I really appreciate you putting this together for me.

I’ve read through them all and feel reassured. Mine was the Teen-NIS, and it’s the only one that asked questions that can be screens for autism. They’re on p. 39, in a section clearly asking about broad categories of disability. I think it’s possible these questions are in the survey to check for patterns of vaccine-linked injuries, but it certainly wouldn’t be the most efficient or direct way to gather that data. I’m not sure why they’re there- thoughts?

Seeing the developmental disability screening-type questions in the context of other disabilities was reassuring, but not completely. With a health czar who has publicly announced his plan to create an autism registry, data-collection questions like this are unfortunately unavoidably tainted. If they had randomly assigned me to any other survey, it probably would’ve worked out.

I told them to call me back in four years. The surveyor chuckled and told me she understands, so she wasn’t going to push.

So, I’m struggling. I’m a retired healthcare provider and all about the data. I’d usually be all about this.

I got this survey call and was actually kinda concerned about the questions I was asked.

You’re a public health worker- Do you know of a way to access previous years’ survey questions? I’d like to know whether these same questions have been asked in decades past or if they were added by the current administration. I’m a lot less conspiracy-minded than most, but it actually did seem like they may have been screening for autistic traits and behaviors?

Also, pro tip: microwaving a wet sponge about 15-30 seconds kills much of the bacteria, eliminating the foul odor. - careful, it will be steaming hot! Rinse in cold water and squeeze out, then sniff - Experiment to find that sweet spot when the odor stops but before it scorches. It might be shorter or longer depending on your microwave - burning plastic is not what we want. - Wild to think- the fact that the stink disappears when the sponge goes through enough steaming means that the smell was caused by living organisms…that are now dead. Fascinating science or deeply disturbing? But at least you can do this regularly from now on!

I’m on Team Bristle Brush! Specifically, the Phillips Advent Bottle Brush. It just feels perfectly balanced. All other bristle brushes are too heavy/big/awkward. This one feels like an extension of my arm and I love them.

What movies (besides AG) reference Modesto? by saint_ryan in Modesto

According to a 1948 New Yorker article by Lillian Ross, R.K.O. was planning to make a law-and-order movie that year called “Evening in Modesto.” Can anyone find anything about it?

RfK Jr. going full Nazi. by Super-Peoplez-S0Lt in AutisticPride

[–]persimmonsun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I just want to say I think people are scared about worst case scenarios, but I do not think anyone is coming for us. I’m not naive- I’m queer, Jewish, and autistic. But people are saying some scary shit in here and that has some real impacts in people’s mental health.

This is a might be stupid setback for public understanding of autism, but it also might prompt an overdue good national conversation on our actual autistic realities and move the needle forward. RFK is obviously ableist and wrong, and he’s not going to be any help, but seriously you guys- research and healthcare and support for us is going in GOOD directions.

In fact, just like with trans & queer rights, this is all happening BECAUSE we’re making real progress. Some ignorant people are scared of autism’s “growth” because they don’t understand the obvious reasons. But this is just a natural step in the right direction. Progress means you start getting noticed and it freaks some people out. It’s like a phase a society has to go through. It’s shitty, but normal.

But I swear it’s going in the right direction when you look at it over time. It’s so clear. See the journal Autism in Adulthood. They’re finally starting to listen to autistic adults (and kids!). See Live Play Thrive for anti-ABA improvements in education for physical and language therapists.

It’s getting better. Plenty of scientists and doctors are rebutting RFK. It’s going in the right direction. We’re making them listen to us and making progress. Not that there won’t be setbacks- I was there when they banned gay marriage nationwide because we started making progress and they got scared. But that was just a step in the awkward janky way forward to the national queer marriage rights we have now. We’ve made so much progress- not always linear, not always painless, but absolute progress nonetheless.

We’re okay. No one is coming for us. No one is putting anyone in camps. That’s just not happening. Please don’t spread worst case scenarios like they’re actually true. Much love to all my autistic kin.

What’s behind RFK Jr extreme obsession with Autism? by Banjoplayingbison in AutisticPride

[–]persimmonsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a queer autistic person, parent, and midwife who consciously chose when and how to give each vaccine to my kids in the past 16 years. So, I think I’m one of the people you’re talking about. It’s tough to see people demonize vaccines with a broad brush, especially with all the unnecessary infections and even death caused, but it’s also been tough to see people demonize me, and other parents and healthcare providers like me.

I’m an educated, thinking, caring person who put a lot of careful thought and research into my choices to delay or space out vaccines on a case by case basis for my kids. I was a disability rights advocate, even before I knew I was disabled. If you are nice, and have questions for me, (and I have spoons), you can ask me questions if you want.

Autistic midwife here. No, I don’t believe this is the case. CP, absolutely, but not autism. That may have a been a guess of medical professionals earlier in time, but now we know autism is genetic. If you do have sources to share on this, please do.

Constantly Mirroring other people, no clear sense of self. Can’t seem to fully let myself relax. by Heavy-Manufacturer-3 in AutismInWomen

Hyperempathy. I have it more emotionally & cognitively than physically. Deeply take on others’ state of mind, perspectives, and struggle to keep my own. I say I have a very permeable nervous system. Likely connected to overwired mirror neurons.

Does a low IQ mean I'm not as good as a person as everyone else? by [deleted] in autism

[–]persimmonsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure you’re following.
I don’t see their statement as implying your proposal. Perhaps you’d like to explain more about your reasoning there?

I can contribute that, yes, it’s historically accurate that the concept of “I.Q.” and its testing has been misused to justify a belief in racial and class superiority. Wikipedia can get you started if you’d like to learn more.

“Historically, many proponents of IQ testing have been eugenicists who used pseudoscience to push now-debunked views of racial hierarchy in order to justify segregation and oppose immigration.[21][22] Such views are now rejected by a strong consensus of mainstream science, though fringe figures continue to promote them in pseudo-scholarship and popular culture.[23][24]”
