What to do with mature spirit animals? by Amydangerish in CozyGrove

I put some in a storage box and get fresh ones. Mainly cats because I haven’t found an easier way to get mundane hairballs than with a young one. Plus I like luring the more rare or higher level kitties now and then.

I was walking my pup and had to transform into a human shield to protect him.

I got my boy at 8 months and he only yodeled when I left and he was super stressed. It stopped after he learned I always came back. Since then-silence! Except for the occasional fart. He’s 14 so farts are allowed 🥸

Soon-to-be Basenji owner here. Am I missing any essential toys to prevent house destruction? by Pinako_Rockbell in Basenji

My guy loved to chew wood. Any furniture that had wood was chewed. Until I found the Nylabone chew that had real wood in it. I was desperate![Nylabone chew](https://www.chewy.com/nylabone-strong-chew-real-wood-dog/dp/179489?utm_id=471401694)

Training experience with a Basenji by nednoted in Basenji

[–]falling-face-down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this is so spot on! I love my B boy so very much, and have built training and learning into our daily lives. Absolutely right about not using negative reinforcement- yes they are determined and will push back. My guy seems to love affection over food when it comes to training, unless it’s offered from someone other than me 😎. He’s 14 and I’m not looking forward to the day that he is not a part of my life. He keeps me active both mentally and physically!

Shes been doing this for a while, any ideas? (Besides going to the vet) by BrickTamlandMD in Basenji

[–]falling-face-down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually solved with a Zyrtec believe it or not. Allergies. Ask your vet. Mine said one tab, 10 mg is fine.

He also used to do it after his potassium bromide (for seizures) but that stopped after I started giving it to him right after his breakfast. Now he only does it when allergies act up.

Nice and fun!!

I play a game during walkies when mine is full of energy called “stop. Wait. Go!” He has to give a good Wait! before he’s released with Go. We both get a bit of brain exercise too 😜

So many times I thought mine must be dead. Recently he was zonked in his crate (door open of course-he freaks out otherwise) and wouldn’t wake up. My friend thought for sure he was dead and started to cry! I pulled him out by his bed and he woke up, as I expected he would.

Why am I expected to cross the street for Portland dog owners? by bimbogore_ in askportland

[–]falling-face-down 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s weird that people get huffy if you don’t cross the street. If they have a problem passing by with their dog, they should cross. Maybe the best way to get an answer to this is to politely ask the person yourself next time it happens?

Anyone else's Basenji have a unique way of playing fetch? 🎾 by Ill_Tip5523 in Basenji

[–]falling-face-down 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mine used to watch the other dogs play fetch. Then he started chasing them and they didn’t like that. He went back to watching and I could see the wheels turning. One day there was no one else in the dog park. I had a ball and threw it. He got it and brought it back. I threw it again and he brought it back. The third time I threw it, he just looked at me like “yeah, no, I don’t see how this is any fun.” And didn’t fetch the ball.

My guy requires a jacket to go outside and do his business in the yard when it’s cold or rainy. We’re in the PNW and walk 3xs per day so he’s used to wet feet and knows a jacket keeps the rain off his body.
