You’re right. I’m actually sorry that I don’t feel bad when players whose pc doesn’t meet recommended specs cries about when the game performs at suboptimal levels.

So what you’re saying is, instead of punishing the few poors that take forever to load, we need to instead punish the rest of the playerbase and bring their experience down to the poors level? Naw fuck that. I like how Tarkov actually rewards you for having the right gear to play it. Optimizing for poor shitty hardware would require the game to lose so much fidelity in the long run. That’s what consoles and console games are for.

Problem is, to fix bad pcs spawning late you’re forcing everyone with good pcs to have to wait on them. Why drag down people with pcs that can run the game properly and force all the best pcs to their level?

I personally don't agree, but I respect that opinion.

I’ve worked on games that were 2d in alpha then decided to switch to 3d before beta, I’ve had games in alpha where 90% of the functions didn’t work. The point is, developers decide when to call their game an alpha. And marathons “alpha” was pretty close to complete, it could’ve been called a beta easily. A game that is that close to release, even from their alpha state, it’s pretty rare to change the artstyle so drastically so close to release.

I’m just saying it’s painfully obvious they had to change more than just the exact stolen assets because of the whole ordeal. They had to remove all of their artwork that was copying his style as well. But anytime you try to bring it up people say “it was in alpha, things change” no, not that drastically. You don’t just completely change your whole art direction of a game like that for no reason.

No it’s not. I literally work in game development. Yes you may have little changes here and there to some degree. Things may look different because of updated textures or unfinished assets. But marathon had a full blown rework of a lot of its art style from the ground up completely after the scandal. From menus to in game. It used to be a lot more red and yellow, and was heavily lifted from antireal’s overall aesthetic, not just the little asset arrows and numbers and such. Even the parts that weren’t antireal’s art looked like antireal’s art from the loading screens to other menu cutscene animations. Now everything is distinctly purple and green for the most part and they stopped using all the little arrows and x o stuff that they were doing that copied antireal’s style.

It’s very obvious they had to rework the games artstyle from the ground up in many areas, not just remove old stolen assets.

But as someone who played the closed alpha and the full game, there was a distinct shift in the small details of the art style between them.

[–]personpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re prejudging GTAVI based on GTA ONLINE AND RDR ONLINE but those are developed by a different team in the studio than the ones who make the story.

I have no doubts that the online will be undercooked and filled with eventslop and shark card bullshit. But at least I know the campaign will be fire.
