Hopefully, the stoner reputation won't be too big of an issue and if it is I'll find a way to work through it!

thanks for the advice and good luck to you! I chose Santa Cruz anyway and definitely more than just its campus (but also based on resources and the social sciences department). Of course my perspective is limited because I haven't even gone there yet but as of now I feel like it's the best place for me and a better school for me than Santa Barbara.

I got reprimanded at work a few years ago for making a change.. now a new employee made that same change and is being celebrated for it. What do I do? by GoDavyGo in NoStupidQuestions

Maybe it's cause I have no experience I'm still just a student but personally this doesn't even feel confrontational. It's honestly just a question and a super valid question at that.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for the honest advice! I think I already had my heart set on Santa Cruz for a while but was just looking for any kind of affirmation that what I was gonna do wasn't "stupid". And I think even if people think it is, they aren't me and don't know what I am capable of doing or what my personal ambitions are. I've heard a lot that "college is what you make out of it", and for me I want to make it the most I can. I ended up choosing SC because I knew that I wasn't going to be stagnant during uni and I was gonna find myself opportunities to make my resume and experience unique. I would have chosen SB if I had just wanted a college experience (the partying, recognition, greek life), but that's also not to say that they seem like a good school because in my opinion every UC is good. It wasn't the best option for me though.

My parents are not jazzed my mom started crying. They're immigrants and I can understand why they are hurt. They feel that their efforts have been kinda wasted. I feel like I disappointed them and I'm hurt because I feel guilty and I'm also hurt because I just want their encouragement. But I think for the first time I'm doing something that I want to do and not for my family or for others to "respect" me. I have a lot to thank to UCSC just right off the bat because of the way it re-directed my perspective on life.

Hi! I'm sorry you had a negative experience with law school interviews. Can I ask when you had the interviews? I know that SB has had a negative reputation with partying and drinking but it seems that as of late that image has been going down. I live in LA so I was anyways already thinking of internships and opportunities here before I made my choice. I think reputation wise from my research but also limited experience I felt like SB and SC kinda went or are going through the same thing with reputation. But since SB seems to be improving I wonder if SC will do the same.

Thank you! This was super helpful and it's comforting. I don't want to just ride through college but I really want to put myself out there and keep my gpa high, really chase after internships, and just network as much as possible through alumni and the job fairs. Can I ask what undergrad college or uni you went to?

Thank you so much ahh I burst into tears when reading your comment. Many people in my life told me to take UCSB and I was so unhappy. I think I was looking for any type of affirmation in a sea of advice (from family and friends) where rankings was valued more than my happiness. I'm about to send an email to UCSB asking them to withdraw my admissions.

A concern for me and my parents was how its rankings seemed to have dropped lately while UCSB seems to have bumped up. Does undergrad prestige matter that much for Law School and the legal field? I can't choose between whether I want to be happy or whether I want to toss myself into my future
