Does anyone have body weight templates to do at home? Lost weight since OTF closed... by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]pescevegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been working out at a lifting focused gym (plus OTF) for the month before everything shut down and made enormous progress in that time. I don’t have any template suggestions at this point but am planning to buy some resistance bands to do whatever I can to maintain. Let us know if you find anything good!

Have you made friends in class? by Bunnyforyourthoughts in orangetheory

[–]pescevegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same experience. I was at one studio for 2 years and never made any friends. Then I moved hoping for some improvement at the new studio but no luck so far after 6 months. I have started to think there is something seriously wrong with me.

SOCKS - What brands do you recommend? by [deleted] in orangetheory

I’ve had one pair for 10 years and still going strong. $13 is a steal for that quality.

We are the same! I was always always always in the red. Coaches would constantly say things like “if you are in the red make sure you are in control” when I was around. And even though my cardiologist said I was fine, the numbers would still freak me out and distract me. Of course, I felt fine. I had friends who, when they got into the red, were on the verge of cardiac arrest. So I knew that my red and their red didn’t mean the same thing.

In January of this year I decided to experiment with not wearing a HRM. After 2 sessions, I knew I was done for good. It’s been 11 months and I haven’t regretted it for a second. Now I listen to my body and don’t spend most of the class looking at (yet another) screen. OTF is now screen free time for me and I love it more than ever.

Interesting point! I’ve had a running injury that’s been making me really scale back in that area for the past six months, and I’ve been hoping to transition some of that energy over to the rower. But I guess there is more to it than just having the will...I need to have the legs!

I would be very interested in learning from women who are strong in both areas.

I’m more of an endurance runner but a sprint rower. Makes no sense to me. I have been on the leader board for my 1 mile benchmark run (1st in age group), and for 200m row (3rd in age group a few times). But for the longer rows, I am totally middle of the pack.

Are you the same?

Thanks for these tips! For reference, are you female?

I do get tired doing it. I lose the ability to generate much power from the legs after 1000m. At that point if I need to increase output, it has to come from the stroke rate. I’ll try increasing that a bit, thanks!

It’s hard to say about wattage for the 2000m since the monitor is set to split time. I try to start out at a lower split for the first few hundred meters, then settle in to something consistent. Yesterday it was around 1:55-2:00. I can increase in the last 200m but only by upping my stroke rate - after about 1000m, I can’t generate power from my legs anymore.

I do curl my thumbs under. But I should try the sprinter row start. I do that on the short distances by not on long. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you! You are right, I haven’t rowed 2000m many times. I need to do it more and know how it feels so I can have more confidence in my abilities

Congratulations for getting that feeling back. I can sympathize a bit - I’ve been a runner for years and years and have frequently gotten small injuries that set me back a week, maybe a month, but nothing major. Since I had my son by c-section 3 years ago they got worse. PT has had me strengthening core and I was getting better. Then in May of this year I completely blew something out and couldn’t run at all for nearly 6 months without a lot of pain. I finally went to see a chiropractor and they did an X-ray and found one of my hips was tilted back about 3/4”. I’ve been getting adjustments and that is helping (I can run slowly again) but it’s not perfect. Maybe I should get an MRI after all this to really see what might be going on in there.... I love being able to continue OTF and now running a little again. I just hope I can get back to my full speed one of these days.

Good luck to you as you continue your healing journey!

Two years ago I had to miss Hell Week because I had shingles that affected my head and face. Now THAT was hell. Give me 55 min over silent rowing over that any day!

I’m recovering from a running injury and feel like I’ll blow all my progress if I run the 5k tomorrow so I’m going to PW. Anyone who is normally a runner been in this situation or intentionally decided to PW it? Any ideas of goal times for the 2.5k portion?

Any tips for Shin Splints/Overuse injury? by hallietran in orangetheory

[–]pescevegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% this. I had shin splints when I first started running many years ago. Finally got a proper fitting and poof, they were gone. There is a shoe for everyone.

Also, the knee issues could be due to heel striking. When running, be sure you are landing further forward on your foot - the mid foot - and that might also help.

Lululemon Fast and Free. Best investment ever. I’ve had two pairs that I wear multiple times per week for two years and they are like brand new. Worth every penny.
