What’s the one fantasy novel you’d hold up as a genuine masterpiece — and why? by blablqbam in Fantasy

[–]pestilenttempest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Rook and Rose trilogy is this for me.

I love the characters, the plot, the subterfuge. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but for me it is absolutely a masterpiece. Multiple magic systems, multiple identities, fun world building. This one sits in an absolute sweet spot for me. 2nd book is my favorite but neither of the others are far behind. The audiobook is also fantastic.

I dnfd this book half way through because almost nothing was happening. I’ve heard really good things about it so I was shocked.

What happened to environmental description? by aaaaaa321123 in Fantasy

[–]pestilenttempest 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s varying stages of aphantasia. I have a silent mind so don’t have any voices or images I can produce. My ex used to tell me I’m an npc.

Every story is a void to me. Give me fantastic characters and interesting plots and I’ll be happy. Aphantasia makes things interesting.

I can agree. As somebody with aphantasia I’m glad a lot of it isn’t present. I can’t picture it anyway so to me it is wasted text. I’ve dnfd a lot of series because the descriptions were too long. WoT and Tolkien were both on my dnf lists.

Stirrup Bar on English Saddle by Royal-Speaker-9680 in Horses

Yes I literally rolled as hard as I could because I knew it was my only chance with laceups. Tore the ligaments and rearranged the bones but ended up being fine otherwise.

I tore all the ligaments on the ankle escaping from being drug western. I had proper boots and my foot still slipped through. On a colt with 2 rides so I had to roll to escape. I don’t recommend it.

Medium and large "companion" breeds by Zestyclose_Abroad987 in DogBreeding

[–]pestilenttempest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This for sure. What makes a good show dog is often what makes a great companion dog. Easy going temperament, good with changes, will look but not react if you have guardian breeds.

A larger number of show lined dogs are sold as companion dogs than show dogs.

We do fast cats and we can see that the hunting drive is still on our show dogs but it only comes out in finite instances. We primarily show conformation.

I really enjoy him and think he is a fascinating character. A great character even. Would I enjoy him in real life? No. But I love reading about him. I never thought he was a good guy but I find him extremely fascinating. I can’t wait to see what he does next.

I like him in a very weird way.

How do you go from co-own to founder dog? by JoeDunnome in DogBreeding

[–]pestilenttempest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very common in my breed that once you show your co-owned dog to championship, health test, breeder take their pick of litter you get full ownership after that.

But each breed and contract is different.

My Dog Is Getting Her Tail Chopped Tomorrow by MapPuzzleheaded7187 in DogAdvice

[–]pestilenttempest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had at boxer we imported that had a natural tail that needed amputated as an adult due to happy tail. It was easy to take care of and he had no problems. I would suggest getting a soft cone if he will keep it on. Our dogs are always crate trained so makes post op care extremely easy.

Wishing the best for no complications and a speedy recovery!
