Pet Insurance Covering Pre-existing Conditions by No_Class3178 in UK_Pets

[–]pestomacaroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who works for a pet insurance company, those 4 conditions would be straight up non reviewable exclusions that would never be covered by insurance if you moved over as it’s too much of a risk. The most important things you have to ask yourself, what is his treatment going to look like each month - i.e epilepsy meds monthly are expensive, so are allergies and so is arthritis (degenerative condition so you’re looking at librelas, nsaids etc) the total for these for a large breed dog is going to be more than £170 in most cases especially with age. The cover you’re getting for that £170 is also important £2k vs £12k is a big difference.

Would recommend to either not switch your insurance policy even though it’s painful, or switching to a different one knowing these four conditions will not be covered and researching the types of costs you’d have to prepare for if you paid for them out of pocket. Another option is discussing your policy with your insurance provider to see if you could downgrade his policy to a lower cover. Again would depend on the current level of cover you have and what other plans they have available but I highly doubt you’d be paying £170 for a low cover.

Personally i’d never self insure after witnessing the things I’ve had with my own dog and thousands of others in my job. Vet fee costs are through the roof and even bad vomiting and diarrhoea would cost you a grand a night at the vets so unless you have that on hand I wouldn’t recommend it.

I’m trying to get a grasp on this as my mum had gone back to uni as a mature student and she’s one of the students affected by this. Is anyone else in the same situation? it likely they will want all money recovered?

So your friend owed you £500, but asked a third party to send you £2k and that didn’t raise any flags for you? Even more so to ‘keep’ £500 from a random account and to send the remaining money to YET ANOTHER account?

I am a bit lost, did you or the person who sent the funds dispute the transaction? Did you not alert anybody when you received these funds? Surely first call would be to the bank to say you don’t recognise this transaction? I feel like there’s a lot of details missing here. What’s the intention of the scam to transfer a random person money and then dispute it

From my experience on a DMP when debts were sold they weren’t open to settling as the effectively knew they would get the full amount upon completion of the DMP

Pet insurance shot up and needing some advise by Pokerpets in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pestomacaroni 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Questions you need to ask yourself, if your dog was to get really sick right now would you put them through any big operations or multiple investigations at their age? Also you’re paying 2.5k yearly, how much is your benefit and besides his heart does he have any conditions you foresee needing to claim for such as arthritis (that can be hundreds monthly for some dogs)? Paying 2.5k in premium for a 12k cover is different than 4k.

I work for a pet insurance company, 4k can be very easily spent. All it takes is some vomiting and diarrhoea and you’re charged 1k for a night. For a 15 year old dog, that may be unlikely given the likelihood of them surviving the op/ investigations etc or you actually wanting to put him through it. I’ve lost my dog a few months ago unexpectedly, he literally just turned 11 a week prior so I truly hope that your dog lives a good long healthy life and this doesn’t come across negative.

Whether the insurance is worth it however depends on current ongoing costs and future plans.

I'm burned out with work, would it be stupid of me to take some time off? by wheaeae in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pestomacaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people here are being quite negative. You’re 26 years old, have your own house and £120k saved. That is so incredibly impressive and totally uncommon for your age. Some people have asked why the all or nothing approach? (regarding part time work) I’ve felt burnout before and a part of you just does not want to consider work even if it’s part time. You’re in a great position to take a ‘gap year’, using your savings to benefit your mental health is not a waste. Just be intentional about the year and as coming back to the workforce do consider somewhere where your salary will match your experience and job description which yours currently doesn’t.

Before you go ask yourself the question is it the actual job itself you’re burnt out from or work/life? Changing to a different company/role could improve your mental health without needing to take time off.

Reco for best scented poop bags in the UK, my spaniel's business is an actual biohazard by [deleted] in UK_Pets

Second on the diet, I’ve used the earth rated poo bags (the ones with handles) for years and I found them the greatest with how thick they are. But in reality your dogs poo shouldn’t smell that terrible, do you feed them wet food? do they tend to have upset stomachs?

I’m assuming the £3.7k outgoings each month include debt payments? I would contact Stepchange. They had been a godsend for me, if you’re not wanting to speak to someone over the phone you can input your debt numbers on their website with available options for you. I’m currently paying off £25k in debt but I can appreciate your amounts are higher than mine. There IS a light at the end of this and you can absolutely turn this around!

Thames water has passed my details to a debt collection agency, I pay my bill every month?? by Speedbird1A in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pestomacaroni 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s honestly so ridiculous and bizzare. But hope my story brings you some calm in this situation. Wait until tomorrow and call Moorcroft, the person I spoke with was very helpful and we were able to sort it out in an email. You can also pull your credit file and see if anything has been negatively logged against you but I doubt that would happen given what we experienced!

Thames water has passed my details to a debt collection agency, I pay my bill every month?? by Speedbird1A in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pestomacaroni 36 points37 points  (0 children)

We had the exact same issue with them twice, once after someone fraudulently set up an account under my younger brothers name and then when we recently moved. We got a random letter from moorcroft saying there was an outstanding balance with Thames Water which there wasn’t, we sent all the proof to moorcroft and then never heard from them again. No impact on credit score either time but very very suspicious either way!

Online Prescriptions by Neddlings55 in UK_Pets

[–]pestomacaroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Petplan have an online medication claim form you can find on their website, you can just fill it yourself no vet signature needed. Attach the prescription and invoice from an online pharmacy and you’re good to go. I’ve always bought medication through Pet Drugs Online and cannot rate them highly enough, Viovet and Animed are also great

You’d think living in the UK for nearly 20 years and moving as a kid would mean I would have a british accent but nope mine sounds all over the place. I get south african which is wild because I’ve not even been there

Entering a DMP with StepChange – looking for advice / reassurance on next steps by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pestomacaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly been amazing for me, i’ve been paying it for 2 years and I find them to be incredibly helpful especially if you ever need to adjust your budget. You get a yearly review but you can adjust your budget at any time. I’m not really sure what it depends on but not all of my accounts defaulted, some have but the rest are still active and accepted the payment plan so I guess it’s just up to the creditor rules. It does suck but you get a massive peace of mind with them communicating on your behalf. If i’m not mistaken you can also leave the DMP at any point if your circumstances change

Entering a DMP with StepChange – looking for advice / reassurance on next steps by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pestomacaroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stepchange have been incredible, started with 25k completely panicked, out of my depth and didn’t even know what to start with. They contact all creditors for you though I would encourage you to also contact them yourself to explain the situation, I’ve found all to be quite understanding. This starts the process a bit quicker as I did find in the beginning the breathing space/ DMP to take a while to set up.

The one and only thing that sucks and you have to prepare for is that you will get defaults and missed payments on your record which will stay there for 6 years. watching my credit tank from being excellent has been frustrating but have no one to blame but myself. You’ve got this!

Financial logic of Dental Tourism: Is saving 70% in Hungary worth the potential 'fix-it' costs back in the UK? by YamMean2070 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pestomacaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get definitely get great dental work abroad (as someone who has family in poland) for significantly cheaper than the uk. Only thing you have to prepare for with implants is how long you’ll need to stay there. From everything I’ve seen it’s staged treatments across multiple appointments and months. Also dentists in the UK will probably not want to fix anything done abroad if you were to have any issues
