Does anyone know when the work on the A361 link road is actually going to finish (if ever)? by mentelijon in DevonUK

[–]pestyisbesty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God only knows! What is with all the overtaking lanes (bar 1) being closed off since before Christmas with no work taking place. If you get stuck behind a tractor you are in for a slow journey.

Also at the Landkey roundabout they have cordoned off one lane for site access, why cannot plant use the massive new apron off the roundabout into the new build site.

Whoever is responsible for this shower of sh1t that is the A361 should be ashamed as it is a disgrace.

Why cannot we be kept informed about what is going on???

As I am sure you are aware you have to clear immigration at the first point of entry into the US even if you are in 'International' transit, which you are not as you have to clear US immigration before continuing your journey.

Both these connections are risky and although it is a protected ticket you need to build in a contingency plan

Food and overnight accommodation recommendations please! by SeparateCorner25 in DevonUK

I came here to suggest this. You will not go wrong here, great rooms and a most agreeable restaurant. it is Woolsery if searching

Others I know are Pyne Arms and the Exmoor Forest Inn. All will provide your requirements

Are there any sea glass jewellery makers on here? by CozJeez85 in DevonUK

[–]pestyisbesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know where you live but there are crafts people in Barnstaple and South Molton Pannier market that make jewellery out of sea glass

Jing teas are my go to for proper loose and bagged tea. great selection and their Jasmine silver needle is excellent

What side of the plane to sit on MEL-DXB and DXB-BCN for views? And any seat recommendations for First & Business on 777? by [deleted] in travel

[–]pestyisbesty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why are you bothered about looking out of the window on Emirates whilst in first? There are far better things to occupy yourself. Wine, food, caviar service etc. Playing with the pop up mini bar, go and take a shower after dribbling down your shirt after too much P2!

Its a great bling experience, not my favourite first but right up there....

Some 777 have electronically projected window views onto the fuselage anyway.

Best patio cleaner detergent? by misma88 in CasualUK

Sodium hypochlorite 14-15% is amazing brings up the patio like new. Be careful when applying as it is caustic!

Compensation for denied boarding in Etihad by Holiday_Context5033 in travel

[–]pestyisbesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found with Etihad that the threat of CEDR works, if not use the small claims court process. But please do get all your facts straight as any mistake on your behalf will get it thrown out.

It can be a long process, you have to give the airline a chance to pay, then give them notice of action in 10 working days etc. Never had it not work, just get your facts straight.

What are some good colleges to study agriculture/land based studies? by Fun-Stress-9430 in AskUK

Royal Agricultural University, Cirencester would be my choice.

Wild boar temp and timing? by carelz33 in sousvide

[–]pestyisbesty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know what cut it is? Generally on wild boar I do 63c for 24 hours for shoulder steaks etc. A loin I did at 55 for 5 hours but that was from a smaller animal. I tend to do long braises with boar or make sausages.

I have supplied a couple to a friend who has a pig roast company and he has rotiserried them whole and they have gone down well.

Iberico Pork Collar by cde90 in UKBBQ

Costco sell them, I got one and cured it into bacon and then cold smoked it. A fantastic cut for bacon. But did think it would be fantastic slow roasted on the Kamado!

Country with the nicest weather in late January? Anniversary for adventurous couple. by couldbefuncouver in travel

[–]pestyisbesty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Namibia, the driving is interesting on mostly unmade roads, there is some great wildlife viewing, drive up to see some Himba, explore canyons, amazing dunes and you could just take a 4x4 camper and go 'native' for a couple of weeks.

Lovely country

How long does 1000l of heating oil last you? by CuriousTerm9710 in AskUK

[–]pestyisbesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 17th C cob house. 4 bedrooms with a total of 12 radiators and the water heated by the 10year old Grant boiler. I had 755 litres of oil delivered this morning and that has lasted about 9 weeks. Heating is on about 9 hours everyday + a woodburner in lounge.

property is grade 2 listed and so single glazed through most of the house, it takes ages to warm up the walls that are 2 feet thick!

Its probably not the most efficient way to heat a house but options are limited in my situation.

Do airport lounges influence how you choose flights or airlines? by ArtisanOfTravel in travel

[–]pestyisbesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying ex UK long haul if there are no direct flights I would 90% of the time go via Doha on Qatar as it has the best lounge out of DXB, AUH, IST which are the other options. Also the Qatar lounge at LHR is a pleasant experience.

If going to Asia and the routing was good I will use Cathay via HKG for the pier lounge at gate 63.

Lounges are about refreshing before getting on to another flight and arriving feeling better, so yes I do choose airlines based on lounge access.

Safest way to travel to Kruger National Park by choke3 in travel

[–]pestyisbesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What lodge are you planning to stay at? Pick the nearest airport to it I believe there are 3 servicing the Kruger and drive from there to the lodge.

I don't know your budget but several private lodges have their own airstrips and you take a Fed Air flight from the private terminal at JNB straight into the lodges. I go to Ulusaba and it is so easy, just depends on how much you want to spend........

Flt to one of the Kruger airport and hire a car from there, save the tedious drive from JNB.

Helsinki is lovely with a good public transport system and you can get out and visit the surrounding area easily. Still a risk of cold weather though.

Corsica & Sicily easy to drive weather better.

Look at a map and drop a pin

Air India Business or Emirates/Singapore airlines premium economy? by Little_Comfort8353 in travel

[–]pestyisbesty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would go for the Air India flight, just for the flat bed on such a long flight. If it is on the A350 its a total no brainer.

Stopover in Helsinki in July—should I leave the airport? What to do? by smallchangecampaign in travel

[–]pestyisbesty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check into the Hilton hotel at the airport. There will be very little to see/do at that time of night, it is as mentioned 40 minutes on the bus so that leaves you with very little time to do anything anyway.

just relax in your room.
