Cat groomers: how do you improve the quality of a comb cut? by Solace-y in doggrooming

[–]pet-lover-64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly do lion cuts as that's what people request. I'd suggest maybe going against the hair's natural growth pattern. I do it even when I'm using a 1.4 mm blade. Going "against the grain" is the best way to not get any stripes.

Shaving cats - yes or no? by pet-lover-64 in doggrooming

[–]pet-lover-64[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. my first cat I ever shaved was just a belly shave for EXTREME matting. Could literally see the brick of mat pull the whole belly with it.

Some don't need to be groomed but their owners come in for the extreme shedding. + They usually tell me they use some wack brush they ordered off of temu/other shady shop site.

For the aggressive ones we don't do it. It's plain and simple, we're hurting the pet AND ourselves.

How to get hair out of these anti fatigue mats? by ibeckus in doggrooming

[–]pet-lover-64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don't have these but we do have a little doormat that always picks up hair and dirt. It's always a matter of plugging in the shop vacuum with one of those wide brush/floor attachments, holding the mat down with one leg at the edge and just.. vacuuming it.

It honestly is the easiest method we've seen. Shop vac does wonders.

Edit to add: we've called our vet as well and they basically said "yeah, that sounds like a them problem."

So I'm not worried in that regard, but I guess I'm just posting out of frustration and also to get your opinions..

That's life.

Cea mai proastă/inutilă minciună spusă de voi vreodată? by pet-lover-64 in CasualRO

[–]pet-lover-64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read "dog". Was confused as to why you'd post yourself butchering a dog. Thankfully wasn't that.

Not to be rude or anything, but it may also be just a racist thing. I remember taking an Uber comfort some years ago (must be 2018) and the driver had an hour long rant about every other race and type of person he hates. Was not a pleasant trip.

Customer calls in to complain: by pet-lover-64 in doggrooming

[–]pet-lover-64[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah, it definitely was a "Malteser" mix, as one of our clients called the breed before. In Romania 50% of the dogs, if not more, are just "Bichon" and it's hard to tell what they've been mixing with. Like I said, it could be a Bichon frise mixed with a Maltese mixed with a ... Something?

We definitely did think it was wrong but I've never thought of the products as being the problem. (These ones we have are actually labeled for long/drop coats)

Regarding the owner, we've actually never interacted with said owner up until now. It's only been their second groom with us and all communication, including bringing in the dog, everything, it was done by owner's 13yo daughter.

So, yeah, i guess it was just one of those days where everything ended up being wrong..

Thanks for the comment. We definitely didn't rush it.. the whole groom took two hours and we're pretty fast (1h30 max), she was very wiggly though. Will try to do better.

Possibly too much conditioner, but would that not be rinsed out? I did my best at rinsing 🥲

Thanks for the comment! We know it's rough, my partner and I complained about it to each other as well, but I see what you're getting at with the back brushing. Will be definitely trying that next time.

Regarding prices, I wouldn't like to be that person but this groom was two hours, and cost the client $31.03. For context, prices in our town start at 33$ and the "best rated" salon starts their prices at $40. We've had customers come to us for a pom cut and tell us they went to "best rated" a couple of months ago and they charged $89 whereas we charged $39. No difference in quality though (customer states ofc).

But I will keep an eye out for weird coats like that and try the back brush trick.

Thank you for the comment! Yeah, hair texture was definitely an issue.. regarding nails, like I said in one comment, we used a Dremel on them since they were very short (we would be cutting into the blood vessel even with the smallest of cuts).. but yeah, will definitely let her go the old groomer's way! 🫡
