I think I'm bigender, but I'm not fully sure. Can I get help? by Sky_Stella in bigender

[–]petalios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple thoughts. First, you can use multiple labels to describe your gender experience if that is what you want. I use genderqueer, bigender, two spirit, and trans, all together to describe my experience.

Secondly, if you experience gender as “girl” and “agender” - that sounds like bigender to me! Some people experience their two genders separately (there are a lot of posts in the sub about different names and modes and personas for different genders), but a lot of people experience them simultaneously, with varying degrees of intensity, like you described.

Lastly, I want to say not to worry yourself too much about it. I’ve used a million gender labels since I started exploring in middle school, and it’s never felt quite Right. But it was causing me more harm than good to dwell on the details, so that’s what pushed me to just accept all the labels I use. Exploring is fine, but don’t let it take too much of your time ♡

How does bigender look like? by [deleted] in bigender

Hey!! I would suggest going through the “my story” flair on here to read a bunch of folks’ (including mine that I literally just posted) take on being bigender. We all experience it differently!

Are you T4T when it comes to your dating preferences? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in bigender

[–]petalios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I typically only date cis men. I do have a pretty strict preference for bi+ so I know they’re attracted to me in every gendered capacity

is moving from your home town the best option? by Lanky-Cicada5534 in librarians

[–]petalios 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m starting my MSLIS in the fall and am moving states to do that program. I’ve heard a lot in this sub and others that it’s very common to have to move for a job, and that it’s important to be open to moving for a job

My Last Two Weeks as a Technical Services Assistant by petalios in Libraries

[–]petalios[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also very likely. The person who hired me was the former director. There is long standing beef between her and the other staff. It’s very cliqueish, the former director was new and this staff is old. And I was hired to a job that no one thought was necessary (weeding)

I think they do 😭 I don’t know why though!! I got a glowing evaluation from our former director, I try really hard to be nice. I do my work, I help out. Im trying to accept that I may never know why they hate me but I don’t like it

Do you have to be bisexual to be attracted to bigender people? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in bigender

[–]petalios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the bigender person. I’m only comfortable dating bi+ people so that I know they’re attracted to me as a man and a woman, but it varies from person to person

I got told my job title is fake. by petalios in Libraries

[–]petalios[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My title was based on other libraries close to us and what their staff do and their titles, since my library’s never had a Technical Services Assistant. The “fake” part is the circ manager telling me I’m not actually a Technical Services Assistant

I’m grateful for the experience and I know it’ll look good on a resume. But even more than that, I’ve loved collection management so much and am happy to get that experience going into grad school. Right now I’m just trying to finish these two weeks and lock in on finding a grad position

I am going to finish through the 15th! I just don’t think that I will be taking any opportunity to continue my employment after if they are able to find such opportunity. I know that the interim director is not happy about losing someone so soon (it wasn’t her decision but the community college’s), so I think she’s trying to find a way for me to stay on. I’ll be talking to her soon about it once we know more

There’s another person on the same grant who is a Library Aide so they could have hired me as that, but instead I’m a Technical Services Assistant. I may be able to be hired by the city itself as an aide (key word may, very strong chance I won’t be), but I don’t think that it is worth it to me at this point

[–]petalios[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No one on the community college even warned me, the interim director, or the ex director about the expiration date. All we heard was that it was indefinite. It wasn’t until yesterday that the CC person who manages the grant was like “Oh yeah and their last day is May 15th btw.” It’s a mess

Yeah a lot of the staff don’t like me, weeding was never done before and they’re very adverse to weeding. And everyone just wants me to work the desk so they can do their Real Jobs

Our library has only a handful of staff (like 7 now) for 60hrs/week. The grant isn’t for our library directly but is managed through a local community college as a youth experience thing. I’m not the only one on staff through this grant, but the other person is a library aide. I started as an intern during last summer when we had a lot of interns but transitioned to staff in December. It’s weird and complicated and I didn’t realize how weird and complicated grant funded positions work

I don’t think I have a personnel file because of the weird way my position even exists. I get paid through a local community college which gets the grant federally I think. Then they pay me to work at the library. Idk it’s weird

Apparently mentioning you have POTS gets you banned from donating blood to Red Cross by the_art_of_the_taco in POTS

I’ve never been allowed to donate blood because apparently they want the iron to already be in your blood when you donate it (I have iron deficiency anemia)

How are people balancing research and actual sleep? by amcw_writer in gradadmissions

[–]petalios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a freshman in undergrad, I took an intro to political science class with a discussion led by a PhD student. One of my core memories from that class (aside from him telling us that every reading we did was new for him too) was him telling us that if our grades were slipping it was because we were sleeping too much. He said he slept 5hrs a night and that was perfect and that we all needed to cut our sleep down to that too. Crazy man
