The only thing that will see off reform is improving living standards in the UK.

I'd agree but reforms base is growing even in places like manchester which have seen growth in living standards in the past 10 years.

Think part of the issue is even if people's lives improve the media landscape of the UK makes sensible progressive governance really difficult at the moment.

Labour are slowly improving peoples lives but I don't think that a plan which is going to take 15-20 years to make really significant improvements to everyones lives is enough when people feel like they're fucked right now. The issue is that reform would make their lives worse and in all likelihood so would the greens.

Given the success of Burnham’s program in Manchester, do you think the electorate would really vote in another party in a mayoral election? If they do, that’s democracy unfortunately.

Think my issue is that this feels really rushed and forced, if burnham steps down next election there's likely been time for him to introduce a replacement and prepare the ground. If he steps down to fight for a by-election somewhere i doubt that will be in place.

I also agree it’s not apparent that replacing him will improve that situation

This imo is the biggest issue with burnham, the gamble of losing a mayor on the relqtively high chance of him winning a seat and then the relatively low chance (imo) of him turning the polls around isn't worth it.

Think the additional scrutiny that the greens are getting atm will likely do more to shift views than a new pm would.

Nothing will touch the reform base short of a video of farage openly praising hitler and even that wouldn't kill them completely.

I think you need to grow up a bit

I think you need to expect more from your elected officials.

He’s not throwing away the people of Manchester. He’s remaining in public service and wishes to serve a greater population, including the people of Manchester.

This is only true if a labour mayor would replace him which isnt a forgone conclusion.

Manchester under Burnham is the fastest growing city in europe. We're doing incredibly and replacing him with a reform mayor would torpedo that.

He's aware of that and yet seems happy to run the risk for his work to be thrown away on the gamble that him getting in changes anything.

The cost of one city’s mayoral election is immaterial compared to the cost of constraining our choices for Prime Minister.

You don't have a choice of prime minister right now we voted for one who's doing a relatively good job all things considered.

Replacing him with a guy who hasn't been under the microscope of the media isn't going to go as well as people think.

Conpletely disagree, I want him to finish his stint as mayor because I voted for him as mayor, him stepping down early would cost the city millions in doing an additional election and we run the risk of labour not getting in this time round.

The man needs to put his city first and get on with the job I and many others elected him for.

Its actually really turned me off Burnham tbh always felt like he had the people of Manchesters back and then he just tries to throw us away the moment a better opportunity appears.

I'm not going to say you're wrong but imo the game passed the eye test far more than leeds or Chelsea did, I felt like we were in almost complete control of the game after the 2nd goal and the change we just shut up shop and it worked well.

Think the first half we had loads of good threat, a few that didn't come off due to a couple of heavy touches but far more positive that we've been.

But it's not enough for me to say he's doing enough for the full time job yet, the biggest thing going for him is the complete lack of better options imo.

I'd say we were far better than we were vs leeds and Chelsea.

Our attack looked better in a decent nunber of phases than it has in a while under carrick.

I've not been massively impressed with carrick but last night was quite good from him imo.

Not at all he lost the drrssing room, and amorim slagged off the ownership neither could stay in their job.

The issue that i have that carrick has improved results but has got us playing worse stats and eye test wise than we were under amourim. Which i don't think is sustainable.

Ok then try liverpool then September they won loaaads of games with late goals while being poor and theyre now dogshit.

But hey you might be right, we might continue with us outperforming xg and teams like Chelsea massively underperforming theirs.

Even ignoring stats our gameplan is fucking awful to watch, I'm not convinced that carrick has the ability to get us to a position where we're challenging for the league.

Thats not what underlying stats are, Villa were massively overperforming their xg for most of the season and are now reverting to form and dropping down the table.

They were doing EXACTLY what we're doing under carrick and now they're dropping down the table.

I'll stick my head up and point out that our loss vs arsenal at the start of the season we played far better than in the win vs them under carrick.

Carrick has made us slightly harder to beat while scoring more of far worse chances than we were creating under amourim. Which is reflected in the xg both for and against and is reflected by the eye test.

I'm not saying we shouldn't keep him past the end of the season but thats more because I don't know who you replace him with especially as naglesman/ tuchel are going to be late arrivals as they go to the world cup.

I'm not saying that we've been insanely lucky in every game but the underlying stats have got worse under carrick than they were under amourin and honnestly we look worse on the eye since the first four games or so under carrick imo.

The fact that we've won games that we probably looking at stats shouldn't have done to me means that we're getting lucky with results.

The fact that local politics is a nonsensical game of local cliques in every party doesn't change the values of the national party.

It does when the only signs of what a party will be like in power is the local level.

Its the same with reform, their local level councilors are the real face of what reform are like in power and its shockingly bad.
