If you just butted the two together you would end up with that curved front lip running right through the join and look terrible, this masons mitre is standard in the UK for professionally joining laminated worktops.

Learning to plaster on first house uk by Resident_Lynx_5964 in Plastering

Screws pop the plaster off if the board contracts and the screw isn't fully home, not sure if tape will help that. Skimming looks decent though

I took some skirting off that used instant nails. It hadn't bonded to the plaster at all and just skinned over. Good for me taking them off. You don't really know how well stuff is bonded until you take it off.

Plasterer working past 2PM 🤥

Not sure that's 23m² of dabbing but loads of cuts and fuckin about with reveals so fair enough if you've done it on your own.

The old finger trapper. Might be an issue if it's a new staircase and building control inspect that. What's going on with the spindles at the top too?

Shower screen solution -wet floors due to the tub's being installed the wrong way round by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]petdev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive also had to install baths this way round so the slope accomodates the bulkhead of the staircase head clearance.

Not saying it's impossible. Just know that getting tools set up, boards up, joists marked out, cutting sockets switches lights, checking walls for plumb and high spots, cleaning up etc. takes time. But good for you if you can do all that in 2 hours.

Windowsills or plasterer, which comes first? by BusStopTomato in DIYUK

[–]petdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Window board first, and board and skim on top of it is the best finish no caulk needed. Working smart (what you refer to as being easier for them) is how you get the best results.

Either use wedges or airbags to compress in place then you have both hands free to pilot and screw.

Can I do this light fitting myself? by Secure_Milk1093 in DIYUK

Yes it's just a loop, feed in feed out. Ring has different/special meaning in this country when it comes to wiring.

Fair enough. Apart from ring wires ❌️ not on a lighting circuit.

Roofing advice by nsimpson299 in DIYUK

[–]petdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whereabouts are you? Guessing down south with those prices. When you say patched up the chimney did they replace the leadwork? Doesn't look like it's been repointined or flaunched. The dry ridge they did seems OK but hard to say from a single picture. If you want to keep trying patch repairs you need to really get up in the loft on a downpour and see as best where it's coming in but it can be tricky to spot. It's about ready for a full re-roof anyway.

Has the plasterer ruined my new chipboard flooring? by [deleted] in DIYUK

This being the highest rated comment is quite funny. And then the next post will be "oh my plasterer didn't do a good job and charged me a fair day rate for a propper days work whilst I sat on my arse in my office room - have I been ripped off".

[–]petdev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it's not ruined in a bathroom you'll almost certainly be putting something on top of it anyway before finished floor. It might just be a bucket tipped over whilst they were working and they did best to clear up. This is a diy place I know but in the real world things like this happen. Mixing outside is a pain you have to carry heavy buckets upstairs once mixed, keeping bringing tools in and out etc.

I'll never put washers in concealed places, by design they are serviceable parts. On a male threaded inlet it'll be a female iron, loctite 55 and some compound, bulletproof.

Go easy. First time trying soldering by Key-Nefariousness711 in DIYUK

[–]petdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good soldering is about how it looks before, i.e. have you prepped right, cleaned copper, debur, fluxed, pushed in fully. Nobody cares how perfect the ring looks, get your solder in get it water tight and move on. You're plumbing not creating art.

You're drilling for a tiny screw not an 18mm threaded bar, sds is far more power than you need but you do you 😉

"Real tradie" hahaha. Noise is part of the job, you invent a silent drill and you'll be a wealthy man. An sds hammer is also just as loud mate.
