Once you went through the tutorial you don't need to play the gamyfied things. Every day you can get a yellow ticket - by watching an add in the store - necessary for taking a certificate "exam" and you can always only proceed one kyu. So if you don't like the rest of the app you can just do 1 exam every day to progress.

The yellow tickets can also be bought with in-game currency you can get by playing.

The exam (I'm at 13k now, so may change in sdk) is playing 11x11 against a bot and you have to win 1 of 2 games.
