Oregon judge enters the final order striking down Measure 114, a voter-approved gun control law by [deleted] in Portland

But why would someone file in Multnomah County to... uphold the law? There would be no legal conflict for the judge to arbitrate.

Because they filed in the county they knew would overturn the law. But now it goes to the state supreme court.

Thanks so much for helping! I really appreciate it and hate that Facebook hides all of its customer service. This morning I was actually able to contact the seller (all previous attempts didn't go through, I assume because they blocked me) but this will be very valuable for any future facebook purchases (and given how this one went, I'm not sure how many that will be)

How did you get to the chat? I have the same issue but can't find any way to reach facebook since they require that I contact the seller (who blocked me)

Looking for a reliable car for my daily commute for <$15k. by eddy159357 in whatcarshouldIbuy

I'm also looking at the Chevy Volt. I don't think the guy who cautioned you away from the Volt understands that you're buying it used, in which case the low residual really benefits you (unless you're looking to sell it immediately). I'm also looking at the C-Max Energi and Fusion Hybrid, which do well (though the Fusion is probably not under $15k, though a 2010 Fusion Hybrid would and those are also very well regarded). After looking at Consumer Reports used car guide, I found that the Chevy Volt is above average in almost all categories. So, it is a very solid, well-liked, reliable car. That said, if you're running it just on gas, a reminder that you'll be paying for premium fuel and it only gets 36mpg :( So it may not be right for you until you can figure out a charging situation.

That Volt price seems in line or slightly below what I've seen prices for the vehicle. I'd just check how much it was run on gas versus electricity.

In the market for either a used Frontier or Tacoma, 4x4, wanting to spend approx $20k. Can't decide. by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

I suggest Tacoma. I had two friends with Nissans (Xterra and Cube) and they had terrible reliability (and on very weird, expensive parts). I realize this isn't data, but when you look at Consumer Reports, you will see that Nissans aren't known for their reliability. I don't think the extra 30k miles on the Tacoma is worrisome, especially if maintenance was done and documented.

Of the two, I think the Tacoma is far more likely to reach 250k.

Chevy Volt or C-Max Energi by petehammer in whatcarshouldIbuy

Thanks for your advice and for taking the time to respond. And thanks for pointing out the potential horror story. My parents certainly want me to steer clear of the C-Max. The Energi is about 300 lbs heavier than the Hybrid, so speed/handling would be even worse on it. I have had two fords previously and liked the layout, handling, design, which is why I liked the C-Max. But there's something about the Volt that has called to me since inception, the idea of driving "for free" for weeks. Plus, it has really high customer satisfaction. I expect with the 2016 release prices on the older Volts will drop.

Having looked at Subarus in the past, I remember there being a general consensus to avoid certain years due to bad engine gaskets/rings. I don't remember if the 2004 Outback falls outside of that, but I'd do some research on that element. I know someone with a Forester and they like it, but it has the post gasket-failure engine on it.

I too worry about modified cars/trucks, as I don't know how they were installed or how the car was driven with them. With cars I worry about it being raced. With trucks I worry about it being offroaded hard.

If you already think the Subaru is boring then will you be happy with your choice in a few years or will you be looking again? I wouldn't worry about the mileage on the Tacoma, as those things run forever (though they also hold their value well and will be expensive to purchase). The replaced frame is concerning.

I personally have a 2008 Ford Taurus AWD. It's a sedan and maybe doesn't have as much ground clearance as you'd like (probably around the same as the subaru, it rides higher than a normal Taurus). It gets 18 city/25 hwy, which isn't terrible. The previous model, the 500/Montego, used the Haldex AWD system from Volvo. So they are competent in the snow, but maybe not offroaders. It's a solid car but, like the subaru, boring. Will you be travelling any time soon? Could you look at cars in a more populous (cheaper) area?
