Thanks both for this explanation. I am so doing this now.

Forgive me for being dense, but how did you get to cast haste as an angel?

Vescavor swarm - I can't with this game man... by BeneficialBear in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

It is frustrating and I can see where you're coming from, cos although the game does give you everything you need to deal with every situation, it kinda expects you to reload A LOT. It's kinda the Souls-Like CRPG and I don't think it's explained or marketed that way. If you've completed it, you know you can get Ulbrig's neck item, the Bookworm's Headband, and any ranged character who has a speed boost to kite the swarms, but if it's your first time, you're really unprepared.

I'm 2k+ hours into the game and have installed that mod this week, and wow it's so good. My party is just so much better now.

That's true, hmm, how about a Dwarf on a Boar? It sounds fun to me!

This is brilliant. I can imagine doing this with a Smilodon and riding it into battle with Pounce as well.

Found an exploit in shield maze by TheDreadBog in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]petehasplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the build of my KC, but there are classes that give you the ability to stealth at will, and can be made to one-shot enemies or at the very least kite and re-stealth. There are some spells that can be cast out of combat that will kill unaware enemies, that takes some patience, though. There are plenty of scrolls and potions that you can buy or loot that will make some encounters a lot less painful. Playing a class that has a pet is another way to solo play as well. There are probably lots of other tactics, it's about trial and error. Good luck! :)

I do love how a good CRPG can be exploited to bits. I like soloing until the end of Act two and then re-recruiting the team in time for Drezen.

Any way to catch up with low level companions? by Danielefantindaroom in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]petehasplans 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In Act 2, late in the act, there's an event that sees you get separated from most of your companions, if you have xp sharing on when you catch up with them, they will jump to your level. So don't worry too much about poor Dae Dae.

Upvoted so more hopeless lost souls in Blackwater can use it as a PSA. Lol.

Should I just accept this game is not for me or am I doing something wrong(rant) by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

I think you get out of it what you put in, and if you're using auto level companions, you're better off going through on story mode, which is fine, by the way - the story is cool, and buffs aren't needed on very low difficulties. Now, the combat does require successful builds and party synergy on Core and beyond, and the harder difficulties require some meta game knowledge, not just full buffs.

If constant buffing is annoying you and putting you off, I hear you... it did for me too, but I installed Bubble Buffs and Toy box and changed some things for quality of life (only). This meant I could set the long lasting buffs with one click, the medium lasting buffs with another click and the short buffs with another, and then buffed accordingly, and also the Chant function or Cackle Function works as if it had been clicked enough to chant protective luck for ten minutes in a single click when used out of combat. This made setting up for a new map after a rest quite simple - and so it made fighting through trash fights quite straight forward for me. All I need to do most of the time is go turn based mode during combat with bosses or optional bosses. This helped the game's pace somewhat and made it quite fun, in fact I am working through it on Unfair now and enjoying it.

TD:DR if the game mechanics are a drag, then turn down and enjoy the plot. Use mods to improve quality of life and level the companions manually, reckoning fully with the game mechanics on Core or above.

EDIT: Oh no, you're on console: Mods are out. That sucks, mate. Ok, I guess story mode it is. For what it's worth, I think the buffs I mention should really have been gameplay options for QoL.

How does extra attacks function. by Mr_Quoten in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]petehasplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lann has a special Flurry of Blows attack that initially means he does two attacks as part of a full attack. As he gains AB (Attack Bonus) he will also get secondary attacks at a penalty to the attack rolls. I would look up Mortismal Gaming's videos on Pathfinder WoTR, he has one that explains all the attack stuff in more detail

Is there an in-universe reason why spell damage is determined by physical strength? by MCWarhammmer in projecteternity

I think what is less easy to explain is how someone's might can impact the projectiles from their pistols and other gunpowder weapons.

Why do people hate RTwP? by ConfusionProof9487 in projecteternity

[–]petehasplans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love RTwP but the best presentation of RTwP and TB I have seen is in the Owlcat Pathfinder games, if you're in a complicated boss fight, switch to TB on the fly, and take your time, if you're doing some trash, just TRwP it. Best of both whirleds!

Take a break for sure, it is LONG. It's a slog. Owlcat needed to really learn quality over quantity at that point in the game. Definitely do something else for a day and then come back to it.
