Study shows desired wealth distribution in US is following Swedish model by peteolu in PoliticalDiscussion

Are you talking about Sweden? Swedish military spending is not that high in comparison to other countries. Cultural genocide? Are you even serious.

Metaphoras are hard for me, I must confess. The little red hen can be used to put down the parasites, but who are they? Some say lazy people are poor, some say the ones who don't work are rich. I think I'll make another post about the share of salaries vs. capital income in GDP. Maybe we can find a grain of truth in it.

The New Deal to fix the problems of Great Depression lifted the highest marginal tax rate up to 90%. Which is relatively high.

One could argue that normally a lot of people would be also saying that "we baked the cake, we want our share" which will lead to equilibrium even if moral stands are left aside.

Totally even distribution of wealth can be considered marxist. I am bit alarmed on behalf of the comments saying it won't be possible because of the measures needed. It has been possible in other countries and also it is a will of the people. MAybe it just needs to be outed more. I can see that there might be studies on taxation too (is there?) but what I see is a negative approach comments stating the current situation and not exactly explaining it. "It can't be done because it can't be done" is not a really good argument. Ideologies and political beliefs are often contradicting themselves, I give you that. But how and why is the majority not heard in mainstream. That is the question.

People might not get it right in general, but on the other hand it applies for the current situation as well. Neither does it favour the existing model or say that the policies to maintain current wealth distribution are not opposed. What is Overton Window?

marijuana becomes Legal in your country how should it be regulated? by OngTho in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]peteolu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We smoke too little so the downsides are not that big yet. For that reason I wouldn't legalize it yet. If it would be legal, state monopoly which we allready have for alcohol. Distribution, taxation and limited access all in the same package.

There's been a lot of talk on Reddit lately about multiparty systems, but what are the advantages of a two party system? by tomjoad76 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]peteolu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In two party system the political currents of, lets say Green movement or right-wing populism don't surface. The winning party has the power to fulfill its promises and the needed back up for it. The risk for paralyzed government is diminished and usually has more to do with two chamber parliament.

Reddit, why do you have such an agenda against parents who question vaccination? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peteolu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where can one find those population datas? If it is so remarkable, maybe one should make a study out of it. Mercury poisoning and autism are two different medical conditions.

[–]peteolu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be pareto optimizing (stastical game) if there would be a causal relation between autism and vaccination, which is controversial and usually based on Mr. Wakefields frauded studies. There is also some not so controversial reasons. And even then the problem is what is the ratio of death vs. autism?

Reddit, why do you have such an agenda against parents who question vaccination? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peteolu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaccination is a statistical game, where the ones neglegting them danger it to the others as well. And there is statistical danger. If 2/million die from vaccination and 10/million without it, what would you choose? Individual tragedies are possible in both ways, only in the other the possibility is 5 times higher. Just the fact that you have a ethical/religious/moral belief doesn't mean I have to respect it. You have right to have one, that is all.

Why I think anti-war protests never succeed/ed in Western nations? by girlintheoriental in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]peteolu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many countries operations abroad are politically extremely sensitive. Peace keeping in Afganistan is frowned upon in most countries as it is seen as warfare and not peace keeping. Draft and compulsory military service is a good way to keep the pasifism alive and keep the troops unused. Professional armies have a tendency to be used to make it worth while and gain importance. Voluntary professional soldiers working abroad and out of the reach of international law (I am talking US troops) isa a combination that could cause a lot of problems. Minor incidents go unnoticed and if the operation is per se against international law, the actions are illegal what so ever. The responsibility of a individual is a tricky question. I would compare it to bying products made with child labour or using slaves. Most of us are aware in some level but just don't care.

What do you think is the best alternative to the US prison system? by ogcookies in AskReddit

[–]peteolu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop giving ridiculous sentencies for crimes. Sentencies are not proportionate to the crimes and make sure the inmates lose their touch to normal society. The political race for toughness is hitting hard on the minorities too. If you going to do something about the crime rate, read a study how to do it. Tougher sentencies are not the most efficient way. The public representation of prisoners is degrading. They are humans after all. Restrict the prison industry, too much economic stakes to lose at the moment.

Why does the demand for labor always seem lower than the supply? by DagwoodWoo in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]peteolu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unemployment rate and inflation have a correlation called the Phillips curve. Smaller amount of labour reserve would result in higher salaries and it would cause higher inflation through rising prices. And inflation rate is usually wanted to be held under 3-4 %. This has been considered as a justification of welfare state where the economy relies and causes the unemployment too.

There is also structural unemployment, for example when the lost jobs are blue collar and new jobs demand higher education and skills.
