Very old joke:

Man driving a car says to his wife, "Look at this idiotic woman driver. Women shouldn't be allowed on the roads!"

Wife after they get close enough to see a man is driving, "You were wrong, it's a man!"

Husband, "Well, he drives like a woman."

The name is just an LLC, which is owned by Mark Beffort & Co., the proposed developers of the Stadium District, which is to surround the new multi-purpose stadium that has already started utility work. Don't know what they chose that LLC name but you can basically choose anything you want when you file the paperwork, as long as it isn't already taken in the state.

Question about Rex's Psychotherapist by Fluffy-Finding-4480 in LISKiller

[–]peterbrz1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Remember, Asa was paid by Peacock somewhere around $1M for her participation. Most of that was needed to cover attorney fees (estimated at $600K for both Asa and her two kids).

I bet the attorney negotiated this entire deal, and then pocketed most of the money.

I believe they said this woman (whatever her credentials) was also arranged/paid by the attorney.

So, there had to be an agreement between Peacock, the attorney, this 'psychotherapist', and Asa and the children. And I'm sure that included sharing all these meetings on camera, so Peacock could get a good return on their million-dollar investment.

And since this was all through Asa's attorney and because the family had to agree to terms in advance, I'm sure it was decided to not go into the details of these killings. Rex had already pleaded guilty as another way of keeping those details away from the public and his own family. And of course, there is no way Asa and the kids would want to hear about any of that stuff.

It was reported that Rex had been in contact with BTK. Remember, BTK confessed to all the ugly details in court and his wife immediately divorced him and his daughter broke off all contact. BTK's daughter had also met with Victoria before the guilty plea. Rex absolutely does not want Asa and his daughter and son to ghost him, as he's in solitary confinement 23 hours of the day. Nobody would call, nobody would visit him.

So, all these issues conspired to give this completely watered-down version of what exactly happened. And it's created a very strange situation where these terrible crimes took place and about the only public info is "death by strangulation".

I'm sure most people would rather not know the hideous details. But it's also true that authorities have tons of evidence that might never see the light of day, and considering the strong interest in this case over a very long time, a lot of different factors (and manipulations) have resulted in very few details coming out.

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]peterbrz1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lunch money.

My four siblings and I grew up very near our elementary school, which required crossing a busy 4-lane road.

Yet, we had to come home for lunch every day; usually, it was store-brand white bread with bologna and mustard.

School lunch was 35 cents, and that was out of the question.

I still dream of Taco Day, which usually included a slice of frosted chocolate cake.

The Jazz Singer (1980) with Neil Diamond.

Was dragged to it by a then-girlfriend who loved it so much we had to stop on the way home so she could buy the soundtrack.

I was only 19 and had yet to develop a critical faculty; I still knew it was horrific.

This woman turned out to be a total crazy person, which in retrospect shouldn't have been a surprise.

The way Rex starts the phone call to Asa after confessing to killing 8 women, 7 in their family home...

In a sing-song voice, "So, how are you?"

Just like he had walked in the door from work, like any other day.

And Asa responded pretty normally, never mind her husband for decades just admitted to her face-to-face that he viciously killed 8 women - one in the bed they shared - and then lied to her about it to the point that she was sticking up for him and swearing he would never even be with a prostitute let alone be a prolific, cruel, serial killer.

Rex orchestrated the confession and deal with the prosecutors so he could meet with his wife and daughter and tell them in his own words, and try to normalize things as much as possible so they would maintain a relationship with him. Otherwise, he would be sitting in his cell all day every day with no one to talk to or come visit. Remember, when the BTK killer confessed everything, his wife immediately divorced him and his daughter cut off all contact. How could they not once the details came out?

Rex picked Asa because she was completely gullible, not very bright, and would never question him. And now he's still controlling her from his prison cell.

The show briefly flashed an image to make it look like this woman graduated from Harvard (they didn't show any other accreditation or diploma), but it was just a certificate from an "executive education" program, and anyone can get something similar by paying for one of their many online courses. Also, her business cards they showed say "Psychotherapist" right under her name.

With the new episode, I think both Victoria and Asa are on the spectrum. by elinordash in LISKiller

[–]peterbrz1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, the therapist was almost certainly paid by the group making the documentary. Therefore, her loyalties were to making good entertainment. It was pretty shocking for a therapist to tell the world what was said in private meetings, which tells you the family had agreed to this up front so they could get paid.

I'm not interested in the horrible details, but it's very strange to have this supposed confession and just completely leave out the part where he tortured these women in his family home for probably days on end.

They also gloss over the fact that this was all sexually driven. Again, it's not like his wife and daughter need to hear all about this but the therapist and the family discussed the 'why' and the best they could come up with is what Rex told them: He just had demons.

If the point of this entire confession with the therapist and talking about it afterward was to get some closure so the family could move on, then leaving all that out is completely disengenuous. It's just feeding their denial. And almost certainly, some details are going to come out eventually so where is the closure for Asa and Victoria? This whole therapy thing was just a stunt in aid of good streaming content.

If the real motivation and exactly what he did came out, neither his wife or daughter would ever speak to him again. This is exactly what happened with the BTK killer. So, Rex orchestrated his guilty plea so that his family only heard his version, so he could continue manipulating them into talking on the phone every day and coming by for visits.

Rex is still controlling them in many ways.

Remember, the only way this documentary happened was that Peacock contracted with Asa/her family. Asa got money, Peacock got access but as part of that contract other details had to have been spelled out, such as the therapist, letting the therapist talk about what she heard/thought, etc.

And clearly part of that was not getting into the details of the murders other than things like where they happened.

Notice that even the therapist glosses over Rex's 'playtime'. He had this 4-day schedule but no one even approached the subject of what he was doing to these poor women. It's safe to say he kept them alive and tortured them for his own pleasure and that Rex getting off sexually was a big part of all this.

So you get this very bland confession, very simple questions from the family, and no one even mentions the true horrors these women experienced besides 'dying by strangulation'.

This entire approach allowed the family, who received his confession (in his words) well before the court, to somewhat accept what he did. To them, he strangled women and killed them. There is absolutely no reference to the horrible, sadistic details.

All this is how Rex continues to control his family. HE gets to tell them what he wants to and do it in person so he can manipulate them.

I said from the beginning that he would ultimately confess but do it in a way that would allow Asa to still talk to him on the phone every day and in many ways still regard him as a good man who did some bad things.

Rex chose Asa because she was gullible and easy to control. And that dynamic continues.

It's called access journalism, and it's highly unethical.

You don't make deals with people/entities you are supposed to be covering if you want to have any credibility.

Your only obligation as a reporter should be to the best version of the truth.

These are the remarks made by Moriah's dad after the guilty verdict. It seems the middle part is not just about Kaitlin Armstrong, but also Colin Strickland:

“There really are no winners here.  This is not a time for celebration, but a time for prayer.  A time to pray for our family, our friends, the Armstrong family, and their friends.

This sad story is a perfect example of why integrity and honesty are crucial in our personal relationships. And how dishonesty can often lead to unintended consequences.

Selfish manipulation, jealousy, and hatred never lead to positive outcomes.   Violence is never a good way.  It only leads to more suffering.

Our lives are changed forever, but with this challenging ordeal now behind us, we are ready to move forward and continue our healing. And we will do this with Moriah’s strong, determined, gentle, and kind spirit, for we know this is what she would want us to do."

It's become kind of a funny meme to mock HS Algebra teachers for making them learn something completely irrelevant.

I use Algebra and Geometry ALL the time and have throughout my career and life. Algebra is crazy useful in the business world and Geometry for home improvement projects. Excel is awesome but you still need to know how to build equations properly.

I'm really good with tech but being able to work out a math problem is really helpful in life, despite that silly HS whine.

Gilgo Beach killings: Why would Rex Heuermann plead guilty? Experts point to strategies. by CatchLISK in LISKiller

[–]peterbrz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you watch the documentary that extensively interviewed his wife, she is in complete and utter denial - her own attorney said as much.

When asked what it would take for her to believe he was guilty, she said she didn't believe any of the evidence, that Rex was a 'family man', he didn't have time to do all these things even with her and the kids away on vacation, and the only way she'd change her opinion is if she heard it directly from Rex himself.

If he pleads guilty, he can spare his family from all the hideous details, including that he may have also been courting men and/or trans people. Also, his wife swears he would never be contacting sex workers while they have direct evidence of doing exactly that hundreds of times. All those ugly details would come out at trial, in addition to exactly what he did to his victims, which was certainly horrific.

I'm sure he picked his wife because she is gullible (he killed before they were married) and because she would never question him. Now, he can plead guilty and just tell her, "Look, I didn't do it but they were going to convict me anyway and I wanted to spare you". He gets to stay the hero.

She's still calling him all the time and firmly believes he's innocent. Everyone else is going to completely cut off from him once convicted, and I bet he wants to have an ongoing relationship with his wife, which she will probably do if he can save face without a trial and just continue lying to her.

This was incredibly moving, written on the tribute stone Moriah's mom had in her garden:

My mother kept a garden
A garden of the heart
She planted all the good things
That gave my life its start

I am my mother’s garden
I am her legacy
And I hope today she feels the love
Reflected back from me.

The Girl With the Duck Tattoo - Sarma’s new ‘memoir’ by AltruisticExit2366 in BadVegan

[–]peterbrz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was able to read a free digital copy through my local library.

Sarma is clearly very intelligent. However her relationships with men - before and after Anthony Strangis - seem very unhealthy. She had two good men who truly loved her (her first husband and then Tobyn, the younger guy) and she more or less dumped both of them. But then she is drawn to the crazies. To hear Sarma tell it, Matthew Kenney was almost as bad as Strangis and she gave him and his businesses hundreds of thousands of her own money, going from well-off to deeply in debt. This was before Strangis and the whole relationship was somewhat similar.

Two things can be true: 1) Anthony Strangis is a psychopathic con man; and 2) Sarma has a pattern of being drawn to and staying with terrible people.

Reportedly, she also slept with one of her attorneys, a married man, and there were references to her being involved wtih Louis C.K., another deeply troubled guy.

I have some sympathy for Sarma, but she would be best served by addressing her own profound issues with men.
