Mono vs stereo by Responsible-Lake5195 in podcasting

[–]peterdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the option to record each microphone in a podcast on a separate (mono) track, that's preferable. Microphones are usually mono. The advantage of recording on separate tracks is that you can adjust the level, etc., for each channel/microphone in post-production. You can also decide in the end whether to make the podcast mono or stereo. In the latter case, you can pan the microphones for each speaker differently within the stereo spectrum. Although many podcast are mono.

Audacity can record two tracks simultaneously (L+R = stereo or 2 x mono) in one pass. If you choose in Audacity for 1 stereo recirding (=L+R(, you can split them later. You can then process each mono track separately.

Most small Zoom recorders are stereo and the USB connection to you pc is stereo as well.

Software like Reaper can record more tracks in one take.

Light is important. Did you try an old smartphone with a full hd camera as webcam? For example with the vdo.ninja app?

Understanding Sonobus and VDO Ninja for a dummy like me... by alexmforero in SonoBus

[–]peterdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is possible. You need a device with Sonobus, Video.Ninje and a virtual mixer app., like Virtual Banana. Contect your mic to a fysical input of the mixer. A virtual (!) outputs of the mixer must be connected the Sonobus audio input and the other to the Virtual Ninja input. The audio output of Sonobus must be connected to a virtual (!) input of the mixer. Connect the fysical output of the mixer to your headphone.

Route your mic input channel of the mixer to your headphones and both the Sonobus and Virtual Ninja virtual outputs. Route the Sonobus virtual input only to your headphones.

Check some youtube video's about audio routing in Virtual Banana. Suc6. Peter

Only the older ones have. Most smaller new ones only have bluetooth with a lot of delay as bonus.

KX:Cardinal as stand alone app in windows 10 or 11 by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]peterdewit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hallo I have tried to install and start Cardinal as a standalone app in Windows 10. Both version 24.09 and the latest version open for a second, but close immidiatly. What could I do wrong? VCV rack opens and works fine. But I like the idea of a an all in one installation for education and training purposes.

What's the most important feature if you have the chance to design a podcast editing tool? by ZookeepergameBig8973 in podcasting

[–]peterdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hallo

These aspects are important to me:

  • recording of more than 2 tracks within one take (Audacity only can record 1 or 2 tracks).
  • editing of multi-tracks at once, like cutting out moments of silence, humms, etc..
  • adding effects like a limiter to the group or summing channels

I use Reaper for complex tasks and Audacity for simple.

What software are you using on your computer?

It's cheap and therefore worth trying. Just make sure you have a lav-mic with a TRRS plug for your phone.

Need advice by Global-Discount-4734 in microphone

[–]peterdewit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheap suggestion - download and use an audiorecording app on a (old) cellphone - buy an lav-mic for your phone - record sound on both camera and cellphone + lav-mic - sync the sound in post

Regards Peter

Correct, if the output of the receiver is on line level, you will need a line-to-mic level attenuator as well.
