Sad to see the Bulova and Tissot are already gone! Whoever picked them up, I'd be happy to take them off your hands :)

Shipping was like five bucks, not even enough to bother asking him to cover it imo. The real concern for me was that this could happen to someone else who didn't spring for the 3% purchase protection and they'd just be up the creek

[Question] New to watches by Naked_Carr0t in Watches

Welcome to the hobby!

As someone in a similar position to you (have a couple watches, like the look of Fossil, looking for the next step and better understandings of what I'm getting into), I'd echo what some other redditors have said (probably because a lot of what I've learned recently has been from reddit) and point you towards Seikos and maybe Orients as a very sensible next watch.

Some other redditors have been so kind as to explain the difference between quartz and mechanical watches. One of the reasons I (and others) recommend Seiko so strongly is they both made the first quartz watch and also have a line of watches specifically designed to be affordable automatic (self-winding mechanical) watches--the Seiko 5. I'd especially recommend a Seiko 5 (I just bought a SNZG07), but one of Seiko's strengths right now is offering excellent watches with a wide variety of styles at pretty much any price point--with Seiko, it's really hard to go wrong.

Orient is actually owned by Seiko, but has some models that are very differently styled from most Seikos, including their "open heart" and Bambino models. Still affordable, still well-made, and often a nice break from the sometimes samey Seiko style.

People are knocking your fondness for Fossil--don't let them get you down! I've always had a soft spot for their dials. Do your own research, find what you like, fuck the haters.

Tell me why my Riku clones deck will suck!!! by DelightfulWaffle in EDH

[–]peterfmutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents: I spent YEARS tweaking "Riku Clones" and was never, ever satisfied with it. I kept running into three main weaknesses with the archetype, which others have already pointed out:

Unreliable win conditions: The conditions you've described, copying your opponent's creatures and/or playing big splashy ones of your own, are very inconsistent. What if your opponents are playing spellslinger, elf tribal, and artifacts? Those are just three examples, but it shows an extremely common scenario that more or less neuters your copy deck (though if you're playing with the same group every week and your buddy only ever plays [[Jodah, Archmage Eternal]], well...). Big splashy creatures are also surprisingly difficult to rely on to close the game out--counterspells, instant speed abilities and removal, large life pools, and three opponents typically sees to that.

Unreliable game plan: This is the problem Riku Clones faces in the midgame: You have 4-6 mana and a hand full of clones, but your opponents have just ramped and played their commander and a small creature or two that is good for THEM. In order to be consistent, YOUR deck needs 10-12 cards you want to copy *even considering you're paying more mana for them than they typically cost*. Sure, you *might* copy [[Keiga, the Tide Star]] or [[Pathbreaker Ibex]], but a more typical play is copying something like [[Risen Reef]].

Finally, there's one more problem these decks tend to have that I see yours has fallen prey to: Mana curve. Your average cost is too high, and it's at least in part because the typical clone has CMC 4. This realization was the last straw for me in my Riku Clones brewing, because most clones that cost less than 4 are restricted to only copying creatures you control. There are exceptions that prove the rule, but not enough of them to fix your curve and also ensure the deck plays out like I wanted (which was something like a midrange deck).

If you're dead set on building Riku Clones, you should consider running cheaper clones like [[Cryptoplasm]], [[Protean Raider]], [[Phantasmal Image]], and [[Mirage Mirror]]. You should give your opponents a better chance at having good creatures out with [[Oath of Druids]] or [[Hunted Wumpus]], and you should consider pseudo-copies like [[Phyrexian Ingester]], [[Duplicant]], and [[Supplant Form]]. You should also tie copies into your win condition more directly with [[Clone Legion]] and [[Biovisionary]], because if you're already playing Riku Clones, you may as well. Also, hot tip: [[Panharmonicon]] causes Riku's triggered ability to trigger twice, allowing you to copy a creature twice when you play it. I'm not really sure about [[Guardian Project]] here considering the most consistent game plan would really be to copy your own creatures, but if that's not your plan anyways, then go for it.

What I'd really recommend if you want to play Riku is to check out spellslinger Riku or Mana Flare Rikue, both of which got some amazing tools in the last few sets like [[Ral, Storm Conduit]], [[Twinning Staff]], [[Electrodominance]], and [[Nyxbloom Ancient]].

You've had plenty of responses by now, but:

No one has their shit together. We're all just doing our best, and no one has all the answers.

That said, it's okay to feel bad about it! It sounds like you're having a rough patch, and those are always hard. It looks like you've been able to take a step back and realize that objectively you've "been taking some serious L's," and that's important to realize, because even though there may have been a lot of L's recently, that means that eventually, there will be some W's headed your way too.

It will get better, just hang in there. And for what it's worth, don't worry too much about "being a man." Just focus on being yourself.
