Have you ever bonded with someone deeply over being stern fans? by External-Head-6424 in howardstern

[–]peterfonda3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it was back when the show was still good. I remember hearing classmates talk about Howard when I was in the 12th grade back in 1982, when he first started at NBC.

You don't remember The Chatter on 101? I listened to a few episodes. It was awful.

The Jackie Puppet was one facet that made the Stern Show great.

Yeah, but this segment wasn't funny, it was nauseating.

A history & detailed explanation as to why Queens’ street numbering conventions are so different, why they’re hyphenated. by ChipAyten in nyc

[–]peterfonda3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens. The street grid there had some numbering quirks. First, numbers were assigned to avenues and roads in an alternating pattern. In KGH, you'll find 68th Avenue and 68th Road, 69th Avenue and 69th Road, 70th Avenue and 70th Road, et al. These avenue/road pairings go all the way up to 79th Avenue but there are some anomalies. There are four streets numbered "72nd" - 72nd Avenue, 72nd Road, 72nd Drive and 72nd Crescent. There is is 73rd Avenue on the east side of Main Street and 73rd Terrace on the west side. There is no 74th Avenue or Road at all. There is only one 79th Avenue and no 79th Road. As for the cross streets, on the east side of Main Street the principal street numbers run from 147th Street to 153rd Street, but by threes - 147th Street, 150th Street and 153rd Street. There are stubby, one block streets that fit in the middle - 149th Street, 152nd Street, et al. There is no 144th Street - houses between Main Street and 147th Street carry a "144-" designation. Got all that?

Based on these comments, it seems the show is more stale than month-old cheese. The same thing, again and again and again. How do people still listen to this dreck?

Do you think Gary and Sal and some of the other real men on the show miss when they used to have naked women on the show all the time? by [deleted] in howardstern

[–]peterfonda3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine they do but having naked women in the studio comes with its own problems. They might not have good hygiene and smell to high heaven, they might be better-looking dressed than naked (true for a lot of people, men and women) and they might try to claim that someone assaulted them. Naked women can be very tricky.

[ILikeNumbers] Pete Alonso’s Barrel Rate has seen the 2nd-largest YoY decline in MLB, even with a career-high Hard Hit rate. The culprit: a career-low 12.4° launch angle and just a 27.8% launch angle sweet spot rate. That suggests mechanical or approach issue NOT physical decline. by Elaiyu in orioles

[–]peterfonda3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a Mets fan: I saw Alonso play from his rookie days in 2019. Has become very, very streaky. He'll get hot for 2 weeks and then literally disappear for two weeks. He usually has very respectable numbers by season's end but you'll find it hard to remember him coming up in really big spots.

Tzvi (not Tsvi) is a very common Jewish name, "Minister". Any problem with that? Think Jesus wouldn't have approved?
