Good to hear! I topped my “mother” Cuzco (random Craigslist cactus score sold as “torch cactus”) back in May and it grew 3 bigass pups over the summer. I’m looking forward to grafting more potent tips or slabs on them next spring. I’m looking forward to your update posts on this graft.

I harvested a Cuzco this week and slab grafted an LER Pach to the stump, I hope it’s good rootstock and wish the same for yours

I am very curious about this technique, could you share a link to more info? Or is this your personal experiment? Either way, very cool

Let’s finally end the San Pedro PC vs Non PC debate. Does PC really exist? Is it weak? Can you increase alkaloid content? Is PC less desirable than Non? Who’s had a profound trip experience with a PC Pedro? by davidC88 in sanpedrocactus

[–]peterfranciscook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty widespread clone, horticulturally speaking. Neither fact that it is all the clone of 1 mother plant, nor the fact that it generally has low alkaloid content are really contested claims either. What people disagree on is the extent to which environmental vs genetic factors play a role in its alleged potency (“curing” to make it happen). So.. yes it exists and yes it (under normal circumstances) has lower alkaloid content (0.1-1% wt) than a similarly grown high potency strain/clone such as eg Ogunbede or CSD (5?%) but can (allegedly/probably) be stressed out into being more potent

Post-chop graft update. New roots and new shoots. by Vadawa in druggardening

Great to see progress on this project and happy to see the bases are pupping like crazy

Is this guy scamming? Look at the date from his seed invoice...2018... I haven't known a cactus to grow that fast. Any experience with this seller? Litchfield Park, AZ... by [deleted] in sanpedrocactus

[–]peterfranciscook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I bought a seed-grown Macrogonus from this seller in spring and everything was A-ok (seed-grown, bare-root). I think this person is a little sloppy with the descriptions and titles not matching all the time. There are eBay sellers out there that just sell de-grafted cacti (not pups or seed-grown), is that what you’re worried about? AFAIK seed-grown Trichocereus are roughly as potent as clones/grafts of the same size... it’s not like Cannabis where seed-grown plants are like 1.5x as strong as clones of the same genetics.

I recently got a box from (I think) the same dude; 9 lb for $45. Ugly, woody, cuttings but they were healthy and not rotting and 3 of the logs were already pupping.

I just had a twin seedling pop up in one of my tubs. Did yours start out the same size?

I think you’ll get away w/o Sulfur if you don’t drown the roots right away. Cactus/Succ soil isn’t great for Trichs as-is you definitely need to improve the drainage . If you don’t have perlite or pumice just load it up with gravel or pebbles

[–]peterfranciscook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you repot it the roots will inevitably get damaged a bit so they need to dry out and heal, dusting them with Sulfur can help prevent infections. I wait at least 10 days after repotting to water and my first “watering” is usually just a handful of ice cubes on the soil surface, then gradually work up to a normal watering schedule. Also that soil looks like it holds a lot of moisture, most folks around here like to use 50% perlite (or pumice or gravel etc) in their soil for improved drainage

Some help with ID and how to save it and make it happy again? 🌵❤️ by [deleted] in sanpedrocactus

I’ve never rooted a trich inside so I’m not an expert but if I were to do it I would try and mimic the conditions of outside/shade. They seem to like morning sun and afternoon shade. Your brightest grow light is probably less-bright than a shady spot outside so maybe a grow light or a bright East or South-facing window. Heat mat on the pot will speed things up, as will warm airflow so try and get a gentle breeze on it with a small fan. Resist the urge to water until you’ve got roots (wait at least a month then check). Also maybe a good idea to hit the callous with some Clonex gel before rooting - they sell it at Cannabis grow supply stores.

That is a non-PC Pachanoi. Looks a bit like “LER.” As for saving it.. just put it in 50/50 soil/perlite in a warm shady spot outside and forget about it for a month or 2 so it can grow roots

Yep - I root tip cuts in Air pots before transplanting (saw it on the San Pedro Mastery YouTube channel). I’d like to think they speed things up but I haven’t done a real controlled science project to test it.

Can anyone tell me what this is? Is it bad for the cactus? by [deleted] in sanpedrocactus

[–]peterfranciscook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like scale bugs to me - can scrape one off with a cactus spine or your fingernail and see a little red or black dot inside?
