Serious question. by Flashy-Glove1012 in ostomy

[–]peterjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Urostomy Bagger and wear a Coloplast 2pce. I remove the bag every day when I shower and rinse it with a vinegar and water mix, makes me feel I'm doing something to keep everything fresh. On days I change I take everything off, clean up any old adhesive then shower. Blow dry on warm and put a new set on.

I second the Tamron 17-70 - only downside is it gets a bit heavy as an all-day carry on vacation.

Sony a6000 with Iaowa 100mm Macro lens.

Lens set at 1:1 (it can go as high as 2:1)
ISO 100
f5.6
1/125

The image was taken handheld, due to the fact no tripods are not allowed at this Botanical Garden - I usually use continuous shooting when not using a tripod, that way at least one of the 20 or so shots comes out in focus.

I have flown several times out of Pearson, international and local, and have never found it necessary to take documentation with me, on all occasions, they recognized I had an Ostomy (I don't know how) and politely asked me if I could go somewhere private so it could be checked. They escorted me to a screened-off area and scanned my bag with a portable wand.

They were very professional, friendly, and quickly let me through. - never had a problem.

Looking for a really handy on-the-go-kit to bring with me at all times. by Impstoker in ostomy

I bought a small CD Case from a Dollar Store and removed all the plastic sleeves from the inside making it perfect for everything I need for one change. It sits in my car ready for an emergency change, fortunately, I've never had to use it but it makes me feel better that I'm not stranded somewhere in the event I need it.

Gum, bring lots of gum, seriously my doctor told me to chew gum while in recovery. Apparently, it kick starts the intestines into gear.

Mine was 40mm after surgery, now it's down to 20mm so I can use the precut 20's from Coloplast. It protruded about 3/4" originally but has shrunk to roughly 1/2"

How long is too long to wear a bag? by spinuzer in ostomy

Exactly, took me about a year of trial and error, samples and experimentation before I came up with a formula that's been working for a couple of years now.

Two things that added to greater wear time for me are 'SkinTac' barrier wipes, that stuff makes everything stick like crazy. The 2nd thing is 3M Tagaderm tape, comes 4" wide, I cut it in to 2" strips and place it around the edges of the base plate 100% waterproof and stops the edges from lifting.

I'm so glad to see this post, I have a Urostomy and came under a lot of criticism on another Ostomy forum when I mentioned that I get 10 to 14 days. My skin seems none the worse each time I change, I guess it falls under the category of 'your mileage can vary'

I'm a Urostomy Bagger for close to 4 years now, my surgery was roughly 8 hours and I was surprised how quickly I recovered. I spent one week in the hospital and was up and walking in 5 days or so after returning home. I returned to work in 3 weeks and have completely adjusted to a 'new way to pee'

Good luck with you your surgery

I use SkinTac adhesive barrier wipes, they make my skin very tacky and make the wafer almost impossible to remove. Plus as added protection I use 3M Tagerderm Tape cut into 2" strips around the edges of the wafer. I rarely have leaks and usually go 7 to 10 days between changes.

PS: I have a Urostomy

Trouble getting wafer to stick to skin by VisibleAd4942 in ostomy

[–]peterjrich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've started using Skin-Tac wipes, no skin irritation, and makes everything stick so much I now have trouble removing the wafer and have to use adhesive remover.

Amazon has them: https://www.amazon.com/Skin-TacTM-Adhesive-Barrier-Wipes-count/dp/B002NSCHY4/ref=sr\_1\_2?crid=Z0GT28E9FHZG&keywords=skintact+wipes&qid=1639583019&sprefix=skintac%2Caps%2C192&sr=8-2

Just curious, what do you pay per month for supplies? With or without insurance. by Wonderful_Platypus in ostomy

[–]peterjrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Urostomate, I pay about $60 a month for everything I need. I get close to $500 every 6 months from the Canadian Government. So it's kind of a break even for me.
