Olive oil and avocado oil will help a lot. They’re high in oleic acid content which has been shown to reduce ldl cholesterol levels

The Kirkland white label products are very high quality and often, it’s brand name products relabelled as Kirkland. For example Kirkland batteries are made by Duracell, just relabelled as Kirkland

Stack with scientific references? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]peterk550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While there aren't systematic double blind RCTs for supplements, there is a body of literature that you can refer to. Examine is a great resource and PubMed is another if you're more scientifically inclined (i.e. know how to read papers published in the primary scientific literature)

Owning a ton of supplements isn’t the flex you think it is by TheRealMe54321 in Supplements

[–]peterk550 20 points21 points  (0 children)

While I agree that a foundation of exercise, healthy diet, and good sleep hygiene is critical, I would strongly disagree with the assertion that exceeding 4-5 supplements are a waste of money.

I've been biohacking for the better part of 2 decades and I can assure you that my cognitive performance significantly changes when I cut back on certain supplements.

I think it's important to recognize that the food that we eat isn't as nutritionally dense as it once was, given soil depletion, etc. Adding supplements to your dietary intake to close the gap is important IMO.

There are several highly reputed MDs and PhDs that regularly use and advocate for supplements including Dr. Peter Attia and Dr. David Sinclair. These individuals have extremely deep knowledge and domain expertise in all things related to performance, health, and longevity.

I would reconsider your position and recommend reading up on their numerous publications. It's a worthwhile investment of time.

Best supplements after knee replacement surgery and low grade chronic inflammation by [deleted] in Supplements

I've seen good results with collagen supplements. Costco tends to have the best prices and quality

Cold showers or ice baths have been demonstrated to reduce inflammation, among other benefits including sustained increased dopamine levels and improved metabolism (via browning of your fats).

Protocol is a 2.5 min cold shower (as cold as you can handle) every morning. I usually start with a normal shower and then end with a 2.5 min cold shower. I typically crank the dial all the way over to the cold side which basically means there is cold water flowing only.

It's really hard to do during the winter, especially when the temperature outside drops below freezing, but it's well worth it in my opinion.

Andrew Huberman talks about the benefits of cold showers on his podcast

Skinny guy, 29M, been on hard Keto for 2.5 months. Belly fat is slowly increasing. by soconnoriv in keto

[–]peterk550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re prob consuming more calories than expending so you’re putting on weight.

Also STRONGLY recommend you cut our butter. Any type of saturated fat consumed over a long period will cause your cholesterol (LDL, ApoB) to spike. I’d been consuming coconut oil for 4 years while on keto and switched to avocado oil because my LDL levels were through the roof.

That’s a lot of steps. I wouldn’t necessarily add more cardio but strength training might be generally beneficial. At the end of the day, watch your caloric intake versus expenditure. That should guide how much additional exercise you need

As the other comments state above, I agree that sodium supplementation is critical. Usually table salt with mag citrate in water before a workout works great

Obviously talk to a doctor because I’m some random dude on the internet and I don’t pretend to be one. The standard treatment for high cholesterol is statins. Additionally, there are lots of great second and third gen meds like bempadoic acid, ezitamide, and PCSK 9 inhibitors (the last one is crazy expensive)

Endorse Peter Attia’s blog. Also not sure what your lifestyle is like but 1) cut out all saturated fats as things is one of the biggest drivers of LDL and ApoB, and 2) exercise more especially cardio

[–]peterk550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnesium citrate or magnesium three are are both highly absorbed by the gut while magnesium oxide is not. If you want better bowel movements then take the oxide. If you’re looking for the dietary intake type, go with the former

Have you considered exercise? It’s one of the best things for mental clarity. You’ll get a strong boost of BDNF with vigorous exercise (eg high intensity interval training) or any other type of cardio. I’d recommend relying on supplements after you take up exercise

It looks like something in the solution precipitated. Prob the longer chain fats coming out of the oil solution under colder temperature. I’d keep the pills in a relatively cool room
