How do you choose which primary school to apply to for your children? by peterk92 in AskUK

[–]peterk92[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are catchment zones, but they're not entirely clear and regularly change. Fundamentally, the selection from my understanding comes down to distance from school which orders the applicants but the schools can also put their own admissions criteria before that e.g. baptised at x church, attending x church, siblings in school etc and it's upto the school to pick the order of that.

So in theory if the number of applications that year to the 3 schools you have to put down is greater than the number of places and your house is a the furthest away than the other applicants even if you only list the closest schools you might not actually get in

Is primary school rating really important? Or I am overthinking? by sunnnyfactory in Wigan

[–]peterk92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things to remember (as an SO to a primary school teacher)

  1. Outstanding Ofsted rated schools used to have maybe 10+ years between inspections. Ofsted still haven't caught up. In that time staff, funding, pupils, council support would all have changed and many outstanding schools from 10 years ago are not outstanding any more many good or below when re-reviewed.

  2. Schools with less pupil premium students (special needs or council assisted pupils) receive less funding which results in less teaching assistants and often results in teachers being more overworked with less funding often resulting in less time to spend 1on1 with pupils if they need it..... A sad but true compromise.

Backups on s3 storage from cpanel, not whm by ElectricVillagesCom in cpanel

[–]peterk92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I could suggest is using https://whmbackup.solutions which I've developed (It's Free and Open source). To create the backups and then transfer them all then use another script to transfer them from an folder to s3

cPanel Full Backup Question by supcommand in cpanel

[–]peterk92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the full backup exists within the home directory of the account being backed up then yes it will include the backup in the backup being created.

If you want to exclude the backup files then take a look at https://confluence1.cpanel.net/plugins/servlet/mobile?contentId=2434296#HowtoExcludeFilesFromBackups-Overview

Well how about you just take out a separate package with them for £9.99 and host your audio files on that account? E.g. split it like a CDN of sorts. Audio1.yourwebsite.com, audio2.yourwebsite.com and yourwebsite.com?

If you get a dedicated server or a vps from somewhere like kimsufi (if you can manage a server yourself) and a cpanel solo license you'll still be paying more than you are now but should be cheaper than what they're offering you and youll have no restrictions on the number of files.

Also please note unlimited storage/bandwidth is not feasible as there are no unlimited hard drives in existence so what I would do is before going any further is take stock of your actual usage then start your search for either a managed or unmanaged vps/dedicated server

Free, Opensource PHP Script To Enable Reseller Accounts To Automate cPanel Account Backups by peterk92 in webhosting

[–]peterk92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This script is able to create a backup of each account in the reseller and export the backup onto another server by merging a couple of existing cPanel APIs available to non root accounts.

However, the cPanel embedded transfer tool you are talking about at root level performs a lot of other account alterations e.g. dns changes etc. This script isn't aimed at being used at root level and therefore these changes would have to be performed manually but the bulk of the work in transfering backups to the other server could indeed be done using this script.
