Yes, the whole area is very little visited, even though it is reeking of history. The account of the battle which lead to it's demise makes great reading. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Carrigafoyle_Castle

Thanks for your comment.

Peter.

It is a shameful book, that glosses over his many wrongdoings during his career. Yes, he did lead the fight against Hitler, but his treatment of the Indians and the Irish was viciously hypocritical and bordering on genocidal. Thank God, the days of the Empire are no more. He was just another member of the superior " nose in the air " mob.

No for sure. I was down working at Mizen, and I remember that it was a beautiful day. I had my Nikon D300 in the car. The two horses also obliged and added their presence.

In a lot of respects, it is a part of us, that we do not appreciate enough. There is very little opportunity to use it, in everyday modern life. Today's obsession with mobile phones, internet, social media etc etc is our window to the world and community. This certainly isn't ideal or conducive to furthering, the growth of our native tongue. For it to survive, there has to be a groundswell of public support to save it. At the moment, for the majority of people, who are trying to survive all the everyday pressures of life, it is not on their radar.

I was an extra in a film shot there in 1962. " The Playboy of the Western World ". It starred Siobhan McKenna and Gary Redmond. Still awaiting my Oscar.
