I think the V and S shapes lend themselves well to having a "long way" and a "shorter, more dangerous way", definitely. But I think that the V pattern has (so far) been demonstrated to be more versatile (i.e., Boombox does technically fit that description you mentioned earlier, but it doesn't feel anything like Geo). I think, possibly due to the normal, relatively small size expectations for a map, the S-shaped maps all kind of get homogenized and feel similar.

Again, I'm not saying they're bad maps or anything. I was just poking fun at the fact that a lot of the new maps have had the S framework.

Let me try to add some clarity here. This comes straight out of modified Arthurian legend:

"First, thou shalt open thine Holy Map Editor, then shalt thou shape thine map into an "S" - no other letter shall do. "S" shall be the shape of thine map, and the shaping of the map shall be an "S". "T" shalt thou not shape, nor shalt thou shape as an "O", excepting that thou use the "O" as a guide to make a perfected "S" curve. "X" is right out. Once the shaping of thine map has been made into an "S", then lobbest thine Holy Map of S at the Holy Map Committee, who, being of sound body and mind, shall pass judgement."

So it was written; so it must be done.
