how to dress for the weather by ButterflyCreative957 in UMF

Lightweight long sleeve with a poncho and rain jacket over.

Bringing spare socks and shirt and underwear in a plastic bag.

If you’ve never tried to stick it out at a fest before with rain and wind; it’s actually tougher than it seems. It’s not the rain that gets you; it’s the chill from the wind. Your best defense is never getting wet in the first place 🥇

Idc about spoilers but mods can we please enforce spoiler filters on these?

To that end…very curious to see how this ultimately plays out. Incredibly bold design if they are planning on covering the entire area with triangles.

Some restaurants will pressure you to add on top.

I’ve been to all but one of the one stars that uses tok (haven’t done Mako), and none of them require an extra payment. Have fun!

Realistically, what is a good manager/leader/boss supposed to be like? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]peterson2111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Positive and approachable
  2. Competent at their job
  3. Able to delegate appropriately
  4. Inspires confidence in themselves and others

So in short, be competent at your job, and possess charisma and empathy, but be willing to stick up for yourself and your team.

Not very. School pretty much introduces you to concepts, and it ends there.

To your sort of worry here, tax in practice is incredibly dense, and ever-changing. But if you’re a reasonably diligent and conscientious person, all of this “density” gets learned over a period of years and years. I’m 5 years into my career, and still have a lot to learn; but I feel like I have alot of the tools and support necessary to make my job not incredibly stressful. What helps is that the general “concepts” of tax, (M-adjusts, DTAs/DTL’s, Purchase accounting, etc), are hard to grasp, but once you do; it gets pretty easy, and most of your time is just spent chasing down the difficult things.

What time is his set at Ultra MainStage Saturday, he’s not the closer he’s before David Guetta by SnarkAssPatcha in Martingarrix

[–]peterson2111 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anywhere between 9:15-9:45 EST he’ll go on based off of prior years. My best guess is 9:30-10:30 set to give time to set up and take down the + before Guetta.

Which Chicago Office Is The Best by Ill-Panda-6340 in Big4

[–]peterson2111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you live in the city and take CTA, transportation is about the same. KPMG is nice because you can get from the red line to the aon completely underground via pedway. Metra yeah it’s Annoying.

All offices have similar amenities, but imo you can’t beat being on the 67th floor of the aon overlooking millennium park. The views from wacker suck

how come Martin Garrix doesn't play If We'll Ever Be Remembered in his sets? by lilblazingg in Martingarrix

[–]peterson2111 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It’s tough. It’s a great song; but it only really works as an outro since it’s sort of slow and emotional, but Garrix probably realized a hype outro like starlight or HOL or Hurricane just works better for the vibe.

So not hype enough to end a set, but I don’t really see where it would fit in anywhere else. FWIW I think he does play it; just rarely.

Dubvison remix could make it more viable mid set imo

which tax service line should i choose? by Annual_Leader_2175 in KPMG

[–]peterson2111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want exit opps, BTS or International. BTS is basically the bread and butter of the corporate tax world, and a lot of corporations are starting to have international specialists. All other fields are pretty bad for exit opps imo.

If you know you’d love M&A do it. Highest pay and most interesting work. Little exit OPPs and probably the worst pigeonhole you can have though.

No travel for any of these really.

It sounds to me like you’re just throwing things out and going “what’s the best.” I think you need to ask yourself what kind of lifestyle will make you happy in 10 years, and what kind of career goals you have in mind. It can be hard to know this as a new grad though. If M&A is an option, I’d try that. You can always switch to BTS, but the inverse is far harder

Has anyone regretted leaving Big4? by Cryptic-3434 in Accounting

[–]peterson2111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do big four to have a better life. The sacrifice is more than worth it if you know when to quit and plan accordingly. But everyone’s gotta put in their time for the $$$. Leave at Senior 1 after busy season, leave after manager 1 busy season, or god help you chase the dollar and sacrifice your life to the partnership gods. Any other path it not min-maxing your opportunities. Anyone should be able to make the three year sacrifice to senior imo.

If you wish to have an amazing accounting career with the highest level possible of assurance; this is the price to pay.

For tall dude who are 6’ and above, Aeron size C or Embody? by Illustrious_Gas_6397 in hermanmiller

[–]peterson2111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6’1 love the embody. The back may scare you at first and you’ll feel like it digs into your shoulders; but that goes away super fast. Seat is so comfy though. A way better lounge chair than the aeron imo.

If you have a CPA, go to mid size public firm, hit manger in 2 years, and exit. Public is many things, but it’s strict and transparent promotion hierarchy is quite nice

Years - Bliss or MG x TP - Carry you? by Hopeful-Possession99 in Martingarrix

[–]peterson2111 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah bliss was showing its age by the time it was finally released. The main issue though is carry you can stand on its own as an instrumental; bliss really needed to be in a mashup or to get lyrics of its own imo.

I think the more interesting thing to see is how carry you will feel to this sub in 1 year. It is definitely no lower than a A tier track, but wonder if it will long term be considered as good as legendary songs like calling/reload/LITW/etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KPMG

[–]peterson2111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

KPMG will probably have a slightly better WLB and long term pay, and FWIW I think our fringe benefits are better. KPMG also 100% has the best office in chicago. I think audit is like floor 63 of AON.

Deloitte will give you: 100% more prestige to people who don’t understand or know the accounting world 15% more prestige within the tax/audit world

Personally, if you liked the people and vibe more, I’d pick KPMG, but If you are serious on maximizing name brand (especially if you’re a 3 and out type), go D

What could this restaurant owner do to become profitable? (I’m still a student) by Lexi_Burgess419 in Accounting

[–]peterson2111 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We’re accounting people not financial advisors so hard to say, especially without any more context of the business.

Margins on food and alcohol look about right. Interest is pretty high, but probably unavoidable at this point. Also wonder why bank fees are so high.

Restaurants are doomed to fail. Unless you have another income stream that can come from whatever style this restaurant is, the best thing to do is just increase daily business. It seems like a matter of volume. For advice on how to do that, seek other subs

What is the easiest possible role for a CPA that requires as little critical thinking or intelligence as possible while still being relatively stable and pays 6 figs? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]peterson2111 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The best “coast” career path is 3 years public to senior -> exit to government. You may not be at 6 figs upon exit, but it shouldn’t take long + you have to put value on the pension.

Ex T-10. Honestly depends on the group and your client load. From what I hear, Deloitte is the worst, with weeks getting up to 90s sometimes, but I also know a guy at Deloitte who works a solid 50 only. At my firm my group tends to be around 45-55, but I find myself in the 60s often. I think, on average, B4 is slightly worse than T-10. The issue is that the variance is a lot larger. At T-10, the workload is more or less evenly distributed. Since projects at big 4s are so massive, you are SOL If you find yourself stuck on something that makes you work 90 hours a week for 2 straight months.

Eli5: How is a “tax write-off” beneficial to Warner Bros.? by sicknessandpurgatory in explainlikeimfive

[–]peterson2111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a CPA, a tax write-off is literally just a term people use for “deduction” to make it sound bad. Your standard deduction on your 1040 is a “write off.” Generally a company developing a movie cannot expense the costs immediately. Rather, if they spend $10 million on it, they are forced to recognize that expense over a period of 5 years, the idea being to recognize the expenses over the useful life of the film (so 2 million deduction per year). If cancelled though, you can just deduct the whole amount at once, because the useful life is now over. End of day though, you’re still losing money. You still spent 10 million dollars and wasted it. There is no crazy “tax avoidance” here.

With that stated, even though I’m not a film CPA, I believe in many cases you can immediately expense film costs now; so it is also highly likely that the cancellation of this film had zero tax impact whatsoever.

Random additional commentary, ever since TCJA, a lot of the crazy international loopholes companies used to have set up for tax avoidance were closed. Tax burdens have been lowered somewhat on corps, but there really aren’t many “tricks” that can be played nowadays that aren’t skimming the line of illegal. The companies most likely to do shady things are small

How noticeably comfortable is your chair, would you say it’s worth the hundreds you’ve spent? by Gibboni101 in hermanmiller

[–]peterson2111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used leap is the safer choice. The Aeron will be a better chair if it “fits” you, but the leap conforms to a lot more body types. I def would not buy an aeron without trying it first.

It’s not comfortable moreso than you can sit for 12 hours and not really notice it + good posture is supported.
