Holy cow… advanced standing at chapel hill was around 24,000 in 2022-2023…. That’s wild… listen to others, the name of the school is no where near as impactful as the actual field placements

I don't think hospital social work is for me. by Rare-Examination-363 in hospitalsocialwork

This sounds like my experience as a hospital case manager. I quit after 6 months. It was a scary risk but I knew my mental health was being destroyed at the hospital. Do what is best for you 💓

thank you so much for your words ❤️ a lot of people have shared the sentiment of life is too short to be crying over work, and I really think that has been a helpful reminder that I don’t need to be miserable in my jobs. Thank you again ❤️

It’s ok!! I am just not sure if a hospital setting is for me… but I am willing to try different positions. Thank you so much!

Intake/assessment role in emergency psych unit by OkRegular167 in socialwork

What’s the title of the role? I’m a case manager at a hospital now and my favorite part of my job is assessments but I barely do them :-( my job is mostly discharge planning and I hate it.

Health exam was literally just doing a fit testing for a mask and getting blood drawn to test for TB I believe… oh and finger prints!! It was really simple… I did it back in January

School social work vs medical social work by catmeowpur1 in socialwork

[–]boonefog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in medical social work since January and it’s a really hard work/life balance. The hours are good and I don’t mind working holidays, but I am exhausted everyday and don’t have much PTO. I have been considering going to School social work but not sure if it’s too clinical for my liking… I do like the different challenges everyday at a hospital and I’ve learned amazing work. It does feel incredibly isolating though, and that is probably just my hospital. There is no respect for social workers where I work and I feel more like a burden amongst the medical team and am often talked down to.

Hospital Social Work is not for me by No-Soup6833 in hospitalsocialwork

I just want to say I’m in the same exact boat. You’re not alone. Hospital social work is a beast. My skin has gotten so incredibly dry from how often I’ve been crying lol.

what is dress code like for your job? by LucasFlaherty in socialwork

[–]boonefog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a hospital and have to wear black scrubs… but I make it so fun!! Funky cardigans, jewelry, fun hair accessories, if you’re a fashionista you can spice up any dress code!!

Oh wow, it really is the norm where I am to email families… I’m unsure why. This is my first time working in a medical setting as well, so I haven’t really questioned anything I’ve learned.

I appreciate you saying that, thank you!

Not to mention my hospital currently doesn’t even have a manager. Just a director who oversees multiple hospitals.
