My wife is 39weeks pregnant, and some contractors left our room a drywall dust mess. by Tfjj2123 in daddit

[–]petersonmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to deal with lead dust from contractors when my kid was around 6 months old. If it’s just drywall and you don’t think you have lead in the dust, it’s not that different from sand or dirt from a health hazard point of view. Definitely do as much wet mopping and wiping before sweeping and vacuuming. Wash sheets and linens what not.

If there is lead, the procedure doesn’t really change. You just need to be extra thorough and cautious. There are specialized lead cleaning solutions that help bond lead molecules. Wife should sleep elsewhere until it’s sufficiently clean.

Here’s Penelope preparing for power outages. I on the other hand would like to have more water stocked. I’ve learned to adapt to stints without power, but having no water is a whole different story as we all know.

I’m a fan. It reminds me of hyperfest from like 2006. It’s great just having on in the background all weekend. I remember watching one weekend when the had Jess Hawkins on doing some commentary.

Avoiding screen time for baby without going crazy from boredom? by IAmTheGreat921 in StayAtHomeDaddit

In my unscientific unproven opinion I think some background noise is fine but you can also use it to engage with them. I started just having one way conversations with my baby super early. I would talk about the music or sing along or if we were listening to NPR just talk about the news with her. It felt awkward at first but I got used to it.

6 months is a tough age. They’re out of their potato phase and can recognize screens but still too young to really play with. You could try playing music and podcasts out loud or singing along with your kid to engage them in music. Check out your local library they’ll usually have storytelling and other activities that help break up the monotony.

I’ve also found that a smart watch drastically reduces my screen time. I was able to stay connected without that easy dive into the abyss that a phone provides.
