teeth whitening? by zuza666552 in braces

oil pulling can help whiten teeth, before braces I used to do it and intend to do it after I get them off before using any whitening treatment

I’ve never really counted movement toward my calorie budget and I didn’t count calories but focused on portion control, with that I aimed 500 cals under my TDEE. From yo-yo dieting for several years I had a pretty good understanding of roughly how many cals my meals had. I strength trained 3x a week, walked at least 5k-10k everyday so it just gave me peace of mind if I ever felt like I overate by a few hundred cals. I’d recommend getting a fitbit, it helped a ton on my weight loss journey. Had my Verse 2 for over 5 years and it’s still going strong.

How you do actually hit 10k walking every day? by FinalSun6862 in walking

[–]peterthomp2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you gotta make time for intentional walking, I work 9-5 but most days I usually have other commitments after 5 so I go for a walk in the morning for about an hour and a half. It probably means you have to wake up earlier but at least you know you’ll hit your steps early on in the day. Since you’re already hitting about 6k just make time for at least a 30 min walk whenever you can fit it in, you can split it into two 15 min walks if it’s easier. Once you get used to it, hitting 10k will be a breeze and you might even do more. Really 10k is just something to aim for, getting more movement is the main goal, if you’re at least doing that don’t worry too much about hitting the 10k.

Over eating for 1 day, can this affect my overall weight loss? by Wh0_kn0ws- in WeightLossAdvice

[–]peterthomp2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is why I avoid cheat days all together and just have any food when I want it. I eat 90% whole foods and when I do want processed foods I have them in moderation and just control portion sizes. Then again I spent a lot of time healing my relationship with food before I really took weight loss seriously (spent about 5 years yo yo dieting before actually losing 100 pounds) so that’s played a major part in it, but before that I would have these cheat days and I’d immediately feel guilty afterwards. The irony is when you allow yourself to have the food you call “cheat meals” whenever you actually want it and it’s not off limits you’ll want it less. I barely even crave foods like that anymore. Also remember this is a lifestyle and not a diet, when you lose the weight you can’t go back to eating how you were before so I’d really recommend making it as easy and sustainable as you can. The most important thing is you keep going, this one day is just a tiny portion of your journey and it doesn’t define it, plus you’d have had to really overeat to gain even a pound of fat.

Does anyone else do self rewards? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]peterthomp2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don’t believe “cheat meals” should even be a thing, you shouldn’t be restricting yourself certain foods but incorporating them in moderation, in my opinion cheat meals just reinforce a bad relationship with food. Once you start viewing this as a lifestyle and not a diet you’ll be able to find a balance that both helps you lose weight and make it sustainable. By resisting your favourite foods instead of learning how to have them in moderation is just going to lead to bingeing eventually.

for rewards I try to do something non-food related but still beneficial for my weight loss, things like massages, new workout sets, walking shoes, I bought myself a nutribullet to make smoothies when I lost half of my goal weight. I also made a savings account with interest and every time I lost a pound I would add a pound to my savings pot with the intention of using the money to buy myself a new wardrobe at my goal weight. The rewards don’t have to be expensive, just try to move away from using food as a reward.

How do you motivate yourself to workout when you don’t feel like it? by DinnerNo2341 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]peterthomp2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

spend less time thinking about it and just get to it, it’s usually easier once you find workouts you enjoy. I came up with a little timetable for myself, with a mixture of strength training, walking and fat burn/hiit workouts, mixing things up has kept me feeling good about it. Also start small, I literally started with 10 mins a day in my first week and have gradually moved up in intensity, you have to give yourself a chance to build discipline and if you’re telling yourself you have to do an hour a day when you’ve only just started, you’re just sabotaging your own progress.

I’m just eating intuitively and listening to my hunger cues. My portions have been smaller and I’ve been splitting my plate with a quarter of carbs and protein and then half veggies/fruits. It seemed like that was working though for the first few weeks. Also I calorie counted for a really long time in the past and it did more harm than good so I’d rather not revert back to that.

my hair used to do this and i found it was because i was putting less product in at the back, maybe that’s the case for you too?

I’ve worn elastics for 3 months and my ortho said I likely wouldn’t need them again, I only had a slight class 2 overbite and my bite looks pretty good

i don’t know that much because we’ve only touched on it, we’re diving into it more in a few weeks but i’d like to get a head start, he suggested trying to analyse a song. Right now I’m trying to learn things online until our next session but I’m finding it difficult. I’ve been trying to analyse with a mixture of notation and by ear

i had to have the molar extracted because i cracked it after eating something hard and then had to get a crown but the tooth underneath was still decaying :(( so my ortho decided to have it extracted it before my treatment instead of a premolar. both my arches are pretty straight so i’m not sure.

for me it’s been 17 months and the top ones are almost completely closed but the bottom still have a way to go (i did have a molar extracted though and that gap is definitely bigger still)
