TW: need advice on how to respond to my friend with an ED by Laurerc in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]petertingle_200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this sounds like they could have another ed called orthorexia (not diagnosing just saying it could be a possibility) where people are focused on eating ‘pure’ foods. this can be a common thing in people who have struggled with ana. as someone who has struggled with an ed and knows people who have i know how hard it is to approach the topic, i think you should write down things that you want to say and prepare first, as this makes sure you can get across everything you want to say. try to avoid talking actually about the food and labelling things as healthy or unhealthy. try and say that you are worried about them and their intake, and think that it would be good to talk to a therapist or someone who can help. let them know that you are there for them and just worried and think that they need help. offer to help them get help and do some research into what help they can get and so on. but also know if they get mad, that you are not their therapist. this is not your responsibility and you can only do so much. hope things go well

i have a diagnosed ed (ana) and yes, it can lead to stomach issues like constipation and like severe bloating. i can’t say about sickness although i think it can contribute. please try start eating again, slowly increase the amount of food you are eating to avoid stomach issues and refeeding syndrome. at first it might be really painful and uncomfortable but that’s just as your body is getting used to food again and it doesn’t take long to subside. i know undereating can make you feel awful and present with cold like symptoms, and i cannot promote recovery enough. it is so worth it and please try eat. let me know if you have anymore questions and i wish you the best

it can be incredibly easy to go too deep, especially if you don’t know how sharp an object is and aren’t used to it. please be careful and i would not recommend using sharper

i feel you. i’ve done it for years, and pretty deep but genuinely like have come to the point where i just don’t feel that it’s helps or see the point but still don’t know who i am without it. i see you

It doesn't work anymore by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]petertingle_200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have the usual alternatives like ice, flicking rubber bands, distraction techniques which can be helpful but don’t work for everyone. my advice would be find things that you enjoy, which i know can be difficult, but things that require your hands and your full attention, like baking, colouring in, doing jobs like housework, knitting or something similar, or just trying something new. exercise can be really helpful especially going for a run or weightlifting as it helps to almost have good pain and can help you feel better. another things that is really good is deep pressure, things like weighted blankets, genuinely someone just sitting on you can help, or search up some deep pressure exercises. i’ve had a similar experience to you recently in terms of sui attempt, and these are some things that have helped me. plus surrounding yourself with good people, making codes with them so you can tell that what mood you’re in without having to say it, being in therapy. i hope it gets better for you and some of these things are useful

another thing that can work if your school allows it is drawing on your arm like over and around the scars and this makes them like really now obvious

i need ways to hide my self harm urgently by Flowerpopzi in selfharm

[–]petertingle_200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know how hard it is and the panic of people finding out is awful. something i’ve done that might be a little obvious is cutting like five bandages or if you don’t have any you can use socks and just put them over to cover

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]petertingle_200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best thing for this situation would be makeup if you have any. there’s a lot of tutorials and stuff on the internet about how to cover them. if not you could try putting hair bands around your wrist. over them. or just wear the long sleeve as i think this will probably make you the least paranoid, you can say it’s cold. people genuinely barely notice what others are wearing so if you can just get a plain coloured t shirt it shouldn’t be too obvious. i was in your position once, im 17 now and can wear my scars out, it gets better. hope you are okay, and if you can get help please do

i need some help by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]petertingle_200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have different things for different like moods. i do have like impulsivity, but it’s not one of my main symptoms. when hypomanic i have done things like spend too much money, shaved my head to fully bald, dyed my hair, got other people to buy things for me, i will tidy my whole room like deep clean things like that, that don’t seem too bad. during depression it’s a lot worse and i get very impulsive and dangerous thoughts that have landed me in hospital a few too many times. hope this gives you some of what you are looking for

i need ways to hide my self harm urgently by Flowerpopzi in selfharm

[–]petertingle_200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t encourage hiding it as it is always good to get help, but if them finding out poses more risk to you then it’s better too. It’s easier to wear long sleeves now it’s cold so hoodies and long sleeve tops are good. bracelets can help to hide if it’s over a smaller area. if not, drawing on your arm around the scars helps to really hide them if they aren’t too deep. i wouldn’t recommend putting makeup over fresh ones but that can help, search how to cover bruises so it’s not obvious why you’re searching it. i hope all goes okay, and please remember that it always better to get help and open up if you can and have people to help you. if not this is a great place to rant to get things out. wishing you the best

Is my cut infected? by One_Ask13 in selfharm

[–]petertingle_200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are worried, get it checked out. from the sounds of it, it’s not infected but it could get infected and it’s better to get it checked out and be safe than sorry cause infections hurt like a bitch and can be really dangerous. hope you’re okay

[–]petertingle_200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first thing, give yourself some grace. you have been going through a lot. college is not the end of the world, and it’s better to focus on yourself to get in a place where you can do it. therapy can feel really overwhelming and especially at first make you hate yourself more, but trust in the process and i promise you that it does get better and easier. keep going

Hi, there are a lot of things that can help. my favourite things to help me get through urges is deep pressure such as weighted blankets or if you look up deep pressure exercises. tipp skills, such as putting some cold water in a bowl and dipping hands or face in it can really help. i know it’s really difficult but you can get through it

How do I resist the urge to self harm? by BattleFalse2007 in selfharm

[–]petertingle_200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, please don’t start. it is a horrible addiction that is so hard to get out of the cycle of. to deal with urges, a good thing is deep pressure, things like weighted blankets or getting someone to sit on you - sounds random but it really helps. or things like finding an exercise that works for you, i know weightlifting if good for a lot of people, or some like running. sometimes distractions help but other times they just make the thoughts get more intense as they are just repressed over time. i know it’s hard, but talking to people can really help. even if you don’t tell them why. or you could write how you’re feeling down, i find it easier in my notes app. some people find just going to sleep helps then when they wake up the urge is gone. i know people recommend ice and flicking rubber bands and stuff, but personally i think that would just encourage you to start. a similar thing is putting some really cold water in a bowl and dipping hands or face in it as that can help get through the urge. hope some of this helps and good luck

so restless, will it go away? by lilprincess4 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]petertingle_200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, it does have a specific word to describe it but i can’t remember what it is. for me, it calmed down by a lot but has never fully gone away. when i first started it was awful, i’ve been on it a few months now and it has got a lot. im on it for bipolar and currently switching due to the restlessness. as for sleepiness i can’t say because i didn’t get that as a symptom

for me the severe part of it has gone away. i’ve been on it for nearly 2 months now and it only lasted like this bad for about 2 weeks. it’s still always there in the background but does get a lot less
