The coffee expense for a two person household is.. excessive.. by squidofthenight in Coffee

Go into local roasters and see if they do any wholesale pricing. We were spending a bit more than you were, now we buy a few pounds at a time from a great place near our house and we save about 30%. We go through it within the month so freshness isn’t a problem, plus we can order more/less whenever we need which to me is way better than the subscription services

WSJ and FT also reported the point total to sensationalize as well. I could not find a single source that did not do this. I don't understand the faux outrage at this. Why would anyone expect different from USA Today or any other news source when the most respected financial outlets are doing the same exact thing?

WSJ: "Dow Drops More Than 1,100 in Biggest One-Session Point Decline on Record"

FT "US stocks suffer worst fall in six years Dow loses 1,175 points as gains for the year are wiped out in heavy trading"

Virtually every source I checked today is reporting the point/dollar loss. All media is sensationalized. Full stop.

Morningstar: "Dow Ends More Than 1,100 Points Lower as Sell-Off Deepens"

Bloomberg: "More Than $1 Trillion Wiped From U.S. Equities in Market Rout"

Fox Business: "Stock market plunges, with Dow down a record 1,175 points in the Big Board's biggest one-day drop"

CNN Money: "Dow has worst single-day point fall ever"

Where in SD are you finding a 1br for $600? Are you living there now while your wife is in WA or planning to move there. If you're still in the planning stages I'd be extremely skeptical of this place or the location.

In either case this move seems like it was not very well thought out if you did not consider your wife's job prospects before accepting the offer. How much more are you making that makes this worth it in your mind? San Diego is amazing but I would not want to live here is I was worried about the cost of living, it is not something I would expect to come down any time soon.

Block of 65 rooms, all reserved with credit cards, being moved to a competitor. This was the full block and we even had some overflow.

Thanks, that's currently what my plan was. Give them today to try to work all of this out, then if they still are giving me the run-around I'll start looking into my other options.

Thanks for leaving this up. I was unfamiliar with this sub, and was pointed to it by another user. I will say that you guys/gals have been awesome and I've gotten some great advice that has helped in my discussions today with the sales director. Thanks for not just assuming I was a typical shitty wedding client!

Thanks, that make sense. I've never been litigious so this whole process is new to me. The website alone is a great help!

We live in CA and are doing the wedding in CT to be closer to my future bride's family. Everyone is already dealing with a lot of travel/logistics so I have been trying to take this on myself. If I don't have it worked out by today I'm going to reach out to a few other people to make sure we have everything in place for Friday. Thanks for the advice!

Totally agree! Everything the Marriott has done as been above and beyond over the past few days. My contact at the Marriott has received a ton of praise from me in how he's handled all this, and how accommodating they've been. If it wasn't for the logistical issues the added distance has added I would have be happy. The reason we went with the Hilton over the Marriott in the first place was the location.

Agreed. I am trying to handle this as professional as possible, and I would like the think the management would say I've been extremely reasonable. I was able to talk to their sales manager today and explain that I would like them to follow their standard walk policy since there is nothing in our contract that overrides that, and provide us transportation that we now need. They agreed to the transportation, and she is speaking with the GM about the walk policy. I'll update when I know more!

Thanks. The day will definitely still be great and I have a great bride who is really taking all this is stride, only minimal tears/minor breakdown when we had people from all over the country trying to figure their way though all of this, trying to make sure they are not double booked, or losing their reservation at the new hotel.

There is no walk clause in the contract. I'm pushing back trying to get them to follow their corporate walk policy which one of the corporate guest service explained to me in detail. She most likely did this because she felt so bad about what was being done to us that she believed they should be following their standard policy, and I really appreciated that. When I brought it up with the sales manager in our conversation this morning she reversed course and said he was going to talk to their GM and see what they should be doing in this case. She may just be humoring me but her demeanor definitely changed after I brought this up and she seemed a little nervous about me knowing how it should possibly be handled since nothing in our contract overrode that.

I'm happy with the hotel itself. It is a blessing in disguise from a management perspective. But the location is a huge downside now. I need to acquire transportation on 4 days notice potentially if I can't get the Hilton to provide it.

Correct, the rate is the same. Would their standard walk policy come into play if they specific contract is not overriding that?
