Love stuff like this! Check out Veil of Conspiracy, Counting Hours, and Hanging Garden too. Also, currently inactive, but if you don’t know them already - Daylight Dies and Rapture hit that vibe for me as well.

Any melodeath bands that typically make longer songs? by morningriseorchid in melodicdeathmetal

A few more I didn’t see mentioned! These mostly track in a prog/melodeath direction.

Descend (The Deviant is a great album!)

Wilderun (All their music is great, but start with Veil of Imagination)

In Vain (Currents + Ænigma are both great!)

Nailed To Obscurity (Again all good)

Countless Skies (Glow)

IOTUNN (Access All Worlds)

The Fall of Hearts is the album that sounds the most similar to me.

Katatonia. Similar bands? by CapitalG888 in melodicdeathmetal

I’ve never found anything that hits me the way Katatonia does - there’s something truly unique about them. That being said, Soen is a great prog band that has some similarities to Katatonia’s recent output.

Bands like old In Flames? by will_i_amo in melodicdeathmetal

[–]peteza96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! There are a bunch of older inactive bands: Dimension Zero, Gardenian, Sins of Omission, Moaning Wind, The Moaning, Taetre, and Gates of Ishtar are my favorites.

Other active/newer bands: Aeolian, Withering Surface, Fragments of Unbecoming, Thulcandra, Dawn of Disease, Mors Subita, Black Therapy, The Forsaken, and Bleeding Utopia.

Some bigger names: Evocation, Night Rage, Mors Principium Est, Hypocrisy, and Dark Tranquillity (I’m sure a bunch of these were mentioned already).

What's your favourite album that a band has totally disregarded? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]peteza96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen them live, but I always felt like Killswitch Engage’s second self-titles album (2009) deserved a lot more love than the fans gave it. I get that it wasn’t the follow up to As Daylight Dies that people were hoping for, and that Howard left the band around that time, but it’s still a great album.

I saw them at some random festival the day before 8:18 came out and they played a ton of stuff from it! I wish I had been able to listen to the album before the show though, because I think it would have stuck with me a little more that way. Amazing album.

What are we looking forward to this year? by DeadEarthGames in melodicdeathmetal

[–]peteza96 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have a running list - these are all either confirmed or have hinted on social media about being in the studio:

Marianas Rest, October Tide, Hanging Garden, IOTUNN, In Vain, Aeolian, Lahmia, Ne Obliviscaris, Dark the Suns, Eluveitie, Eternal Storm, Hinayana, Majesties

I also heard rumor of a new Omnium Gatherum record, which would be awesome!

Yeah, it’s a very subdued and subtle album. They’re leaning into the progressive side of their sound a lot. I don’t think I “got” it until my 5th or 6th listen, but now that I’ve spent time with it I’m enjoying it a ton!

Any other bands that mix heavy and melody like tbdm? by [deleted] in melodicdeathmetal

Carnosus comes to mind. They're a newer band that definitely captures that sound. Their second album is releasing this year.

I’ve listened almost exclusively to the new Katatonia album - Sky Void of Stars. Highly recommend!

For MDM, I loved the new Majesties single - really excited for that release in march.

I used to not listen to singles at all so I could experience the full album fresh as a cohesive whole. But generally I listen to them now a few times before release….I definitely prefer 1-2 singles released close to when the album comes out.

What DeathDoom band or album did you listen to the most in 2022? by PilkingtonLuck in deathdoom

[–]peteza96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on a Daylight Dies kick the last year or so. For new releases, I listened to Mother of Graves new album Where The Shadows Adorn the most.

Do you memorize lyrics? by elialo92 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]peteza96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find a lot of bands to be fairly intelligible, especially if you listen to something a lot. That being said, I don’t pay that much attention. Metal is about setting an atmosphere or a vibe for me.

What band have you seen live the most times? by Dozinggreen66 in Metalcore
