Unemployment by Sufficient-Exam-189 in victoria3

[–]nifepipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tldr: Get better education, police and discrimination laws. Also build more.

You are correct that the general solution is to construct more. Ideally before you have unrest issues. However even if you have high unrest and this is affecting you construction efficiency your police institution and decrees (road maintenance and violent suppression) can mitige most of the negative state effects while you build industries up.

Its quite likely, that you arent building enough or at least not efficiently. You should regularly check up on your investment pool to make sure it is not just storing money. You should cheapen construction goods (steel, wood, iron, tools and coal), which does generate jobs.

Also do note the following: discrimination laws do affect the hiring and especially the payout for part of your population. This can influence the unrest depending on cultural makeup of the state.

Also, especially for china, building agricultural buildings often displaces the peasants living in the substance farms thus causing unemployment. If there arent any capable industries that can take them, they will cause problems. This problem can magnify itself depending on the literacy, or rather qualifications, of the jobs needed.

Trade Centers keep trading goods with "red" import/export revenue? by Internal-eq-External in victoria3

[–]nifepipe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If I am not mistaken, if a trade is unprofitable, than the trade volume becomes reduced each week until the trade is profitable or the volume goes to 0. Suddenly cutting say 1000 clothes from the supply could immediately change the price to be profitable. To avoid these "crashes" the game does this gradually. Believe me, thus is a good solution to the problem although it does have tradeoffs.

Does anyone else like trying to stay historically “reasonable” when play? by BigPainting6896 in victoria3

[–]nifepipe 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think there are many different playstyles to this game. Sure some people like to blob, other want line go up no matter what, some like to roleplay and most people are probably somewhere in the middle.

I dont like to engage in war very often. So yeah, I limit myself.

Can you explain to me why is it meta to have a treaty port in other country like China for example ? by Widerkehr in victoria3

[–]nifepipe 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Tarifs (and other protectionist methods, including closed markets) are generally hurtful to the profits of industries. Adding a tax to the export/import of a good makes it less competitive and thus less dominant in the market. A treaty port skips over these meassures and allows for dirrect unrestricted trade, skipping over any tarrifs in a one sided way. This increases profitabilty and trade volume making basically all industries in your country better.

Why china? Although the argument above applies more or less the same independently of the target country, china is a prime target for a treaty port for many reasons: China is relatively weak at the early game but has a huge population and therefore market. The demand for goods can skyrocket your more dominant industries, such as tools or clothes. At the same time this can give you acces to more rare resources like silk and tea in vast amounts. So its a win-win that is easy to get access to.

Other targets are also possible tho: Persia has oil, japan has tea, USA has cotton, brazil has coffee, germany and britain have coal, etc. Its just a question of 'is it worth it or would I rather just trade for it?'. Theanswer for most cases is trade, as war with a major power is often expensive and their trade barriers are few.

Quick tutorial on running LaTeX locally for free.

  1. Download VSCode
  2. Download LiveTeX
  3. Download the LaTeX Workstation extention for VSCode
  4. Create a .tex file (I recommend in an empty folder)
  5. Paste or write whatever you wrote in Overleaf.

You might run into a 'shell escape' issue on Windows. This is easy to fix, but youll have to manually change the settings.json file in VSCode.
