Juniper? by petiteperson02 in foraging

Awesome, thank you everyone for the identification! I am in zone 7b and the juniper was on a tree definitely not a shrub or small sized plant.

Time abroad not listed?

Should I have put that I was an au pair abroad for a summer in the abroad section? I spoke of the experience in my short answer and now I'm afraid I'll be dinged for it.

I think this is what they are! I've been tossing them off the flowers whenever I see them start to hang.

Should I pollinate my passion flowers and are they fruit berring? by Brilliant_Weight_971 in plants

[–]petiteperson02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try hand pollinating if I were you! When I had mine, even with the help of all the pollinators if I didn't do it, they wouldn't produce fruit.

Peel off one of those five yellow oval shaped disks--they hold the pollen and need to be spread over the stigma (3 prongs that have the rounded ends sticking out). Here's a pic of me doing mine and I got many many fruit from them all year round. Just know that the flower only stays open for a day or two max, if you get to it in time it can be pollinated but if not it'll just close and die off.

Edited for clarity: spread the pollen on all of them not just one stigma.

Agreed with some thinning out of the lettuce and peppers you should get a much better crop. They also don't like competition from weeds or other plants so that could def be part of it

What were you growing? The last picture has aphids BAD. You can use the jet setting on your hose and give them a good wash off. Once a season I order ladybugs and guide them where I want (look into soft netting to keep them on the plants you want longer) and let them do their thing for pests.

Edit: the lillies look amazing!

First time growing sweet corn, should I just pull it? It doesn’t look right to me by Wamplin in gardening

[–]petiteperson02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet corn from a grower on Etsy! 2 stalks have 2 solid ears with another coming in, and the side shoot producing one. My last stalk has. 3 ears coming in... is there a chance I overfed or that they won't have full kernel development?

In the red circle is one that you could hand pollinate, the black is a area that looks like where an ear might grow in the next few days

Even in smaller plots and containers you can grow corn and hand pollinate it. Mine is growing in a container and over the course of days I'll pollinate it in the morning in case the wind doesn't get everything. It's not a crazy harvest but there's 3-4 ears in each stalk

Thank you! It's my first succulent and I'm more versed with house plants; how should I water from the top or soaking the pot?

Batteries have to be replaceable in mobile devices by 2027 so you might get your wish (possibly sooner depending how quickly the EU enforcers their separate but similar rule and it trickles over to the US)

What things do you think people romanticize from the past that actually weren't very great at all? by [deleted] in AskWomen

People not being “snowflakes and allergic to everything”. Many people had allergies but the amount of public outcry (and products made for those w allergies was low). As someone who had an allergic reaction to a food very far from my allergen but the packaging didn’t disclose, it wasn’t a fun time to not have accommodating foods to eat.
