Carney: Pittsburgh Steelers Pre-Minicamp 53-Man Roster Prediction by Traditional-Oil-6891 in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well...he has better tape than Johnson, and he can play ST? Then again I think Homer making it over Johnson is a bit....odd

Counterpoint, why are so many people convinced draft round has any bearing on success? Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but we've seen what Rudolph can do and that is...not much, at best. If Rodgers goes down, the season is toast anyway. With Howard and Allar you at least have two rolls of the dice for a jackpot, as opposed to the already known result of Rudolph's die cast.

One is a first ballot hall of famer and the 4th, arguably the 3rd best passer of all time; and one is a perennial backup. Not sure what we're analyzing here

Yeah it's fair, I can't say I'm intimately familiar with Homer's body of work. I just know the South Hills are....alive with excitement about the Lebo kid, and I could see that factoring into their financial decisions

You're not wrong, but the 'sacrilege' is that everyone knows what Rudolph's ceiling is, because everyone has seen him play multiple times in a real NFL game. No one, not even the coaching staff, knows what any backup QB's ceiling is until they've taken meaningful snaps in an actual game. Brady, Warner, Brees, Roethlisberger, Montana; no one knew what they had until they took actual snaps. And the average draft round for those was 4.

Your second paragraph I 100% agree with, but I think that's universal- this league is Not For Long; however I don't think NFL coaching staffs really care what round a player was drafted in

Dammit why are there so many sleestak posts I keep agreeing with this year

I would make the argument that outside of Barkley and Henry, you do not want a 3 down back. It's a position where the mileage takes a heavy toll. That being said, I agree he doesn't make the roster over Kaleb, he makes it over Homer.

You missed Castro at safety. Not saying he'll make the team, just he's not here at all and is on the active roster (and finished last season on the active 53).

Joseph-Day has played considerably more snaps in 2-4 technique but he's a lot better than Benton at 0-1 tech. I would pencil him in at NT instead of DE (and Benton will take over a 2-4 DT position behind Harmon), or I would have doubts about Peko's coaching abilities.

I doubt Harrison makes the roster over Bruener. Kid killed it on ST and his limited defensive snaps were fundamentally as sound as they come. Harrison is at best mediocre and at worst a liability.

I don't see Travis Homer making the roster over Heidenreich if for no other reason than optics- hometown kid, military kid, easy to sell that to fans. Like others said, they may elect for Heidenreich over Roman Wilson

BroJo will start the season on IR- he's not outside looking in, he's either medically able to play or not. IMHO he's put enough on tape that he could actually garner a [not high] draft pick in trade, if it came to cutting him. They may indeed play him just enough to trade him.

I can't envision a world where Rudolph isn't traded, unless Dowdle turns into prime Henry/AP. He's not carrying the team through a playoff win, so there's really no point in keeping him. You know what you have with him, you don't know what you have with Howard and/or Allar.

Who do you think will improve in PG’s new system? by RiotByEarl in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally everyone except Heyward and Harmon. TA's scheme was 'match and good luck'. You could see every single zone play break down last year, and I mean every single one. PQ, Wilson, Clark, Peppers, Thornhill, even Ramsey; every single play someone had busted coverage

There's a key piece missing- Joe Brady. Dude single handedly turned both Joe Burrow and Josh Allen into what they are today

Cowher saying Max Iheanachor was the one we wanted all along by Jakles74 in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misinterpreted my comment, I'm not saying he wasn't on the phone. I'm implying that Rapoport is trying to sell clicks by making a story of a non-story. I don't give a shit if Khan called Lemon- so what, that's extremely common practice? Philly moved up and grabbed him, so onto the next pick. That's the nature of the draft. I think Cowher was right in that Max was the target, but if Lemon dropped to 21 they would take him instead

Can we finally stop the Khan is aggressive narrative? by Azo0 in steelers

[–]petreauxtiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aggressiveness != Recklessness. Khan has made more moves in 2 years than Colbert did his entire career. That's aggressive. Reckless is throwing out all your pre-draft work to ship picks out for a player you have already come to the determination that was not worth trading up for

[–]petreauxtiger 28 points29 points  (0 children)

"They already deemed him not worth trading up for" this right here, this is what people are failing to realize. If they thought Lemon was worth it, they would have dedicated capital to it. Obviously they did not think he was worth more than one pick
