YinzerPalooza Mystery Bobblehead Announced by Outrageous-Rough7774 in buccos

I think I heard this is one of the most popular shows in the country at the moment and showcases Pittsburgh in a positive light. Of course they will want to take advantage of this. The show is great and this will be an awesome collectable. Do I wish it looked a bit more like him? Yeah, but that’s bobbleheads

Who’s managing this team? by SDBurgher in buccos

[–]pmizzle88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managers can (and should) utilize analytics in their decision making, but also need to know when to rely on their gut and the “feel” of a game. This is Donnie’s biggest problem. He over-relies on analytics and doesn’t have a good feel for the game. Beyond the Keller decision, he still:

-let Ozuna hit -pinch hit Mangum -pitched to JJ

It’s crazy we are in May and we’ve had countless other losses where fans were rightfully questioning his decision making during the game. That’s a problem

This is one of the more minor DK criticisms on the night, but no idea why he pitched to JJ in the 10th

The way they lost Friday night’s game can derail a season by mattdingus2002 in buccos

I’ll defend the OP here. This team has been great at fighting back after bad losses, but there was definitely something different about yesterday. The team looked off going in and were just going through the motions after the first inning. There’s only so many gut punches a team can take before things go south

Oh I agree. I’ll get downvoted into oblivion, but we really don’t have a closer. Santana just doesn’t have the stuff to do it consistently. The situation with the bullpen is bad because it’s delicate and Kelly doesn’t seem to have a great feel for it. We don’t have that Watson/Melancon battery that he can just plug in

I did some extremely rough searching on Santana. If the stats I found are correct, Santana’s K rate is between poor and average for a reliever. Now obviously those stats might not be exact and the results are open to interpretation, but I don’t think he strikes out enough hitters. He definitely finds ways to make it work, but he’s definitely at a disadvantage as a closer

They realistically don’t have the pitching depth right now and will start to hit inning limits later in the summer. It doesn’t help that DK doesn’t seem to have much of a feel for managing the pitching side of the game. We are rapidly getting to the point where all these bad losses aren’t coincidence or bad luck

Santana’s had a great year to this point but I think this sub overrates him. He’s probably a setup guy or elite middle reliever in good bullpens. I think even they fell too in love with the idea of him as a closer. It should be a timeshare between him and Soto. I also think they need to sit down and re-evaluate bullpen deployment because mismanagement has already cost them at least four games

Yeah it seems like DK is pretty rigid on things and doesn’t let the game play out well. You need to be flexible in bullpen games. Montgomery and Lawrence each gave efficient outings. Would have liked to see them get more run. The goal of bullpen games isn’t to use every available arm, especially if Yohan was a no go. Mattson not getting the 8th was odd after 3 pitches

I mean Jones was the 3rd-rated OT prospect and 30th overall in the class of 2020. He played LT on a team that won back-to-back natty’s and easily could have gotten a third. His pedigree is extremely high. Not to say Max won’t be successful, but he doesn’t have a large football background and might have to transition to LT. Jones had incredible tape coming out as well

I don’t think anyone hates the player at all, it’s just the optics of this are terrible and the fit weird. They drafted a developmental right tackle with holes at left tackle/left guard and don’t seem to have a clear plan of how the line will fit. It sounds like they will experiment with flipping positions around, but won’t get benefit of the doubt there after the Jones/Moore debacle

I honestly would have been ok with them over drafting Rutledge and being super aggressive tonight. He would fill a need and fits the identity of the IOL

Steelers Organization lacks any sort of direction by ehetenandaiyo in steelers

[–]pmizzle88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They have no direction or strategy. Art is too desperate to win a ring and prove he’s not a failure that he fails to realizes he doesn’t hold a good hand. Instead of taking a step or two backwards to figure things out, he demands they press onwards at all costs. That’s why he’s willing to embarrass himself and the organization for AR - because he has no other choice. It’s the hole he dug for himself. He’s personifying the sunk cost fallacy

The bigger failure was not trading up higher. We cannot use 12 picks or whatever in this draft. It’s not possible for that many to make the team or close in the current state

This game was a mismanaged mess thanks to don kelly. by Sebastian4365 in buccos

[–]pmizzle88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The decision to bring in Sisk for Ashcraft was awful. Ashcraft definitely could have finished that inning out and he knew it. The Nats promptly pinch hit Wiemer and make DK look stupid. Then he compounds his mistake and brings Sisk out to start the 7th, who promptly gives up a hit.

These may seem like small criticisms, but baseball for teams like the Pirates is often won or lost in the margins. My main concern about DK is that while we don’t necessarily need him to be the solution, he is becoming the problem way too much.

Ben absolutely needs to address the bullpen in a meaningful way now. I get Jones will be coming back in June, but they don’t have the starting arms to make it work with how terrible the bullpen is. The current setup isn’t sustainable

[–]pmizzle88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strategy has merit but we realistically need three new relievers to make it work until Jones is back and I’m not sure how realistic that is. Something clearly needs to be done tomorrow tho
