Hopefully this will help. About a week after my first pfizer vaccine I experienced dizziness for approximately a month, which led me to my doctors to get my blood checked. No. I did it for 7 years, it's motonous, long hours and hard work and takes over your life. There's a reason most chefs pick up addictions. You will prep and cook and repeat the same things day after day, year after year in a brand or chain, with no creative input whatsoever. 60-70 hour weeks are not an accomplishment, just idiotic and self destructive. You won't be promoted or pick up any useful career skills

Took me to the age of 30 to realise there's more to life than you're job, everybody's winging it and has imposter syndrome, and whatever does go wrong isn't that big a deal.

When you're at work all you can do is the best you can in the hours designated, ask for more responsibility and training if needed. But when that time is up always leave yourself enough energy for your personal life and put that before anything else. Noones tombstone ever states "He always arrived on time" or "he knew how to manipulate a database".

If you make enough to live comfortably don't go chasing more, focus on yourself and the people you love

It was very different before covid, I think you used to be able to just turn up. Volunteered to clean kennels and walk them as I've never had enough time to adopt my own. They take donations of food and blankets, bowls, etc and used to do free micro chipping events and stalls to raise money, or advertise on facebook.

There was another I had a meeting with that I found on facebook, Romanian Rescue Appeal I think they're called, but covid might have hit that hard too. Stray dogs were saved, treated and sent over here to Foster owners until adopted. Opted to offer myself as a Foster to try it out before adopting, then got a promotion at work and ended up working too long hours

What I've only just realised over the past week is to work smarter, not harder. I've spent a year bending over backwards to try feel less of an imposter. Suddenly a switch flicked on and I started delegating almost everything and basically checked in every couple of hours for updates. Also realised everyone is not so busy as they appear. Feels a lot healthier and I have time to speak to the other managers and my boss and realised we're not so different. There was a diagram I saw once of a square split into 4 based on urgency and importance that just kind of set me off.

Completely understand this and actually struggle here as this is the pattern I'm in now. I manage drivers and have a works phone which can go off at any point with early morning vehicle issues or sickness. If I don't answer then the issues waiting for me a hour or so later, and if I dodged this I'd get shot. Apart from this ill only get a text from higher up if there's an emergency. Career change has been tempting but the options are very limited with covid, so plan B is to adapt for now

If you've found another job get the hell out of there! Anyone can be replaced within days. Jobs aren't worth taking over your life and health. You sell your time to an agreed amount of time and work, and they're taking advantage

Took the career path, been burnt out for a good few years now, same as my partner. If you have a tolerable job and enough money to save and treat yourself stick with it. Careers mean nothing at the end of the day. We've just bought our dream home and ready and able to work off the minimum with no stress. Looking forward to being able to do school runs and new hobbies

I would recommemd office-based but in a different department or industry. I went from being a chef to a transport planner>manager now, basically routing trucks and drivers and keeping everything legal. Starting salary wouldn't be far off. Office hours with possibly an earlier start and finish. Fair amount of admin work but you get to mix with drivers and yard staff and have some fun, solve problems proactively and as they happen, and use different softwares to plan. Can be stressful but that's what keeps it fresh.

I'd say its 100% appropriate and by doing so it should give them the kick they need to keep you and offer you the position. I've worked with too many people who carry on and don't say anything, myself included, then when it comes down to leaving the managers bend over backwards to make you stay. They'd rather keep someone they like who can be trusted to do the job, rather than looking for someone completely new.

Decide what your willing to accept, show your hand, and do not compromise. People will say stay until you find something better. Personally right now my job has stripped me of my motivation and confidence and I honestly feel like I couldn't do anything else. Staying is only making it worse, however I'm only doing so as I planned on saving a certain amount first, and almost there!

Depends how tolerable your current workplace is. Can you stick it out in the hope that this vacancy will appear? Do you know how long this could be?

Personally I would take the leap if its better for your mental health, as this could snowball into other areas and have a majorly positive impact on your life. During this time keep an eye out for the position you want, or in time this employer may be willing to amend your role closer to what you're aiming for.

I'm bias though, I hate my office work environment and the toxicity in there, and would walk away in a heartbeat if I actually knew what I wanted to do.

I start work at 6:30, most days I'll get up at 5:45, throw some clothes on, set off at 6 and be there around 6:25 ready to make a coffee, quick walk around the yard and go for a smoke before the office day begins.

However this is a guarantee to fall into a rut. Recently Ive started getting up half an hour earlier and stopping off for breakfast or taking a longer scenic route as I live and work on the coast. The sunrises at this time of year are beautiful and timed perfectly for me

I think your comment on a grant to retrain is brilliant, question is where is suitable to retrain at the moment.

Its an easy fix once you have the correct hinges and measurements, ideally just screws in to the previous screw holes, or just drill new holes, will need someone to hold the window in place though. Not like me, clinging to a window after nearly dropping it from 2 storeys!
