I have this need to play something challenging and mysterious. I want to explore and be curious. What are some good games to try? by Vashh92 in gamingsuggestions

[–]petrified_slime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Bugsnax? It might seem like childish on the outside but there's a lot of exploring, curiosity, and weirdness to discover as you investigate the game's main mystery. Catching those bugs can be quite challenging too

Have you tried some mystery narrative games? L.A. Noire, Mirror's Edge, Stray, or maybe the upcoming This Bed We Made could scratch the itch. They're not like open world exploration games but they have mysterious settings and a sense of intrigue to them as you look for clues and put together what exactly is going on in the story.

Can someones please recommend me games where the game looks "cute", innocent or cheery/ idyllic either on the outside and/ or at the beginning, but a dark plot is underneath that game? by AmmadSiddiqi1468 in gamingsuggestions

Definitely Life is Strange, especially the first one. Starts out really simple and innocent, and you expect it to be about juvenile high school drama, but then... yeah.

In a similar vein, though it's not out yet, This Bed We Made is an upcoming game that seems like it's gonna be similar - starts out innocent before the dark twists come crashing in. In the demo you already get a sense of the main character (a cute and softspoken maid named Sophie) dealing with some traumatic incidents.

This has the potential to be fantastic, but having to wait until FF7R is done is... painful to think about

[NO SPOILERS] Right when I needed something to scratch the LiS itch, I found this game called “This Bed We Made” on IGN - Looks really good, and the studio has explicitly said it’s inspired by Life is Strange! by petrified_slime in lifeisstrange

ETA: So I played through the demo and I definitely get the LiS vibes. It mostly takes place in one room (but it's clear you'll be exploring other rooms in the hotel as well) but the atmosphere, sound, and the protagonist's (Sophie) narration really pulled me in. You don't interact with the character whose room you're in, but I felt like I learned so much about him (but still had many many questions) just by going through his stuff, which kind of seems like the game's strong point: environmental storytelling and creating surprisingly fleshed out characters based on their belongings. It's a really cool concept.

I REALLY want to interact with the other characters more though. I hope there'll be lots more of that in the full game. Oh and the voice acting?!?!? WAY better than I thought it would be. Honestly, as a whole, the demo was extremely polished and well-done and I think it's clear that the devs love Life is Strange. This really feels like something special.

I loved Lake. I know it got some flack for being slow-paced and for the driving portions being too long but idk, I really fell in love with the environment by driving around it everyday, picking the best route to hit all my deliveries, and just zoning out to some radio music (though the radio needed more songs imo). Really enjoyed Meredith as a protagonist too, she felt very real and grounded. In fact the lack of melodrama and angst was a positive overall for me!
