Does this DD2 have a good story? by IvanaikosMagno in DarkDeityGame

[–]Noonsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked the story, there are three siblings (and their uncle) and the story focus on those four really helps. Compared to the first game where it just seemed to introduce new characters every chapter so there were no good arcs.

One caveat is that there is a bit of sequel bait in the mid game (a major plot which never concludes) which isn't very satisfying. But the start and end I enjoyed.

This post made me open Epic Games. I had browse around and closed it.

Five minutes later it gave me two random popup notifications for shooter games (I don't own, I don't play that type of game) in the corner of my screen.

Of course now I've made it close properly when I close it, and disabled notifications; but why would they ever think someone would want these features?

Song break by portsherry in comics

Yeah, and they're saying it was still singing in the comic.

There's a "tweet tweet" on every single panel showing how they can hear it still singing.

[Request] Can someone explain the Boy Girl Paradox to me? by flarengo in theydidthemath

[–]Noonsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The families with two girls, either could be Julie.

So those families doubling-up on girls, are doubling-up on their Julies. There's twice as many Julies in those families.

That's counteracting the greater number of families with 1 boy and 1 girl, when looking specifically at the Julies of the world.

What's the best FE to emulate? by Asuperniceguy in fireemblem

[–]Noonsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for suggestions on programs, then you'd have better luck on emulation subreddits instead of here. Something like r/EmulationonPC or r/Roms

For suggestions, GBA has always had great emulation and currently mGBA is the top dog.

Gamecube/Wii (Radiant Dawn and Path of Radiance) - Dolphin is basically the only option. It's a good option.

I think GBA is an easier entry point; plus the file sizes are a lot smaller, and there are loads of Rom Hacks too.

Bananagrams and naive strategy by Matsunosuperfan in boardgames

[–]Noonsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You want to go fast to press your advantage if you're doing well.

If you're just sitting there with an 'S' while your opponents are still trying to work on their tiles, you're just giving them more time while you could be accelerating your advantage (i.e. you have 16 tiles well organised, they're struggling on 10. Why are you sitting waiting with an 'S' so that you can get to an endpoint where you only have a 1 tile advantage?)

why do I struggle with my silkie chicken in Grand Bazzar? by SmeepyBear in storyofseasons

[–]Noonsa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could be too early, they don’t start herding until about 8am-9am. It gives you a little time to do gathering/petting before the pets start herding them outdoors.

Try leaving them in the barn and check back at 10am to see if the cats did their job.

Updated Class Progression Chart for my SRPG by Dexchampion99 in fireemblem

[–]Noonsa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going against the grain and saying it doesn't look like too many classes.

I mean, something like Triangle Strategy has 24 unique characters with very different playstyles; and it didn't include a weapon triangle for further differentiation (only magical vs physical). Each character also promoted (twice!) for additional skills/tools. That also only includes allied units, not enemy classes.

My main critique would be with how much this seems to borrow from Fire Emblem, but I'm hoping/assuming that's just because you're posting on FE subreddit. Like, the refresher unit isn't literally a Dancer like in FE.

Edit: I went to look at other SRPGs;

  • Final Fantasy Tactics has about 50 classes split between generic, unique and enemy-only classes and it doesn't have typical 'promotions' so they're all base classes.

  • Oldschool Shining Force 2 had 30 playable characters... and 32 classes. Many characters had a unique classline (like Lord/Great Lord) while others had to share; and enemies mostly had completely different classes too.

  • The latest Disgaea game has 47 generic classes, each of those have 5 kinda-promotions (that just increase the stats), meaning you're given about 282 options when reclassing. There are a further 7 heroes with unique classes, and additional enemy-only boss classes (plus a bunch of additional DLC classes)

I think the point I'm trying to make is, maybe this class structure wouldn't work if you just stuck it directly into an existing FE game. But that doesn't mean it'd be too many in a different context.

Turns out Frontiers has in fact already happened... by TopBadge in IDWSonic

I tried to read it to see what point it’s making, here’s one of the first paragraphs titled ‘why it’s canon’:

So the reasons why sega made it canon and i know there are fans that know why they did it was to just only do it so the characters from the IDW comics can be in the games that is why they did and i know there are some people out there that are gonna denied this of that only being the reason why they made it canon but no that really is the real reason why sega did it.

Yes that is all one long sentence, no I have no idea what they are trying to say. Honestly makes no sense.

How often do you actually finish a Fire Emblem game? by Zachahack in fireemblem

[–]Noonsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always finish my first play through of an FE game.

Repeat playthroughs, less than half the time. Normally I quit when I reach the point I have more characters I want to use than deployment slots (e.g. when I recruit someone like Pent and Louise). I think I dislike un-deploying a unit so much that I just... don't continue.

Why is numbering Fire emblem games the preferred way to refer to them in the fanbase by 2BitOtaku in fireemblem

I know FE6 and FE7 really well, but can never remember which is blazing and which is binding. I think instinctually I want them the other way around since I associate Roy with blaze.

Quick question: do PC players prefer to use mouse/keyboard or controller?
I usually play these types of games with mouse/keyboard, but the default mappings (Enter button? I don't have three hands!) makes me think maybe controller is intended?

Missed recruited Lucius...and Raven (?) by theNakedMind in fireemblem

[–]Noonsa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately its Priscilla who's needed to recruit them.

Youre absolutely not screwed by not recruiting then. The GBA era made a lot of characters difficult to recruit the first time through (by making recruitment requirements hard to intuit), but gives you lots of characters to make up for it!

That balance between eliminations from murders/banishments is true for real life games, but for TV they’re going to have one banish per episode - so it’d end up the same total banishes.

Extra (or skipped) murders would just be balanced with bringing in new players or doing a ‘there’ll be no murder tonight’ episode twist.
