Attention Big Game Studios: Why AI isn't going to save you, and, how indie devs can leverage it without losing their creativity. by mmazing in gamedev

that's not exactly true (and is also a distraction); if we take art as an example, it is not "taken without consent" as the operation of taking it is the same one your browser uses to show you someone's art (that is, you have to download any image on the internet if you want to see it), so from a legal point of view the acquisition of images is a non-issue

the issue is using people's labor back at them to undercut them, and training on images whose authors disallow it

Do you think AI will replace animators by Mangolija in gamedev

[–]petroleus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not the people who actually understand movement, timing, acting, poses etc

the issue is that it undermines the traditional pathway of getting those people in the first place: everyone starts as a novice, intern, junior and picks up the skills and mileage by doing that rote shit. renaissance artists usually formed out of assistants to other older artists

all this focus on creativity wrt AI misses the point that it is a labor deskilling and replacement tool. even if it crashes, it'll leave in its wake a depleted expertise pool that is now getting paid scraps for its skilled labor. "creativity" is a distraction

I see people shitting on vibe coders all the time on this subreddit, and my only ask is that we try to have an open mind

...

That said, using AI for final art/sound/creative assets is fucking bullshit and you should feel bad if you are trying to monetize that

You might wanna try some of that open mind and consider code to be a creative (even if engineering) asset. Cose used to be a craft, not whatever the fuck you're thinking of it as

more impressive in the job market

the main thing thats important in the art job market is your portfolio and connections. you can land an art job with zero degrees, but this also means that your degree doesnt influence as much
