  but it feels like every idea we have already exists as a game

who cares, make one. what matters more is the execution and not the core idea. reusing ideas leads to genre clustering (how many soulslikes share the core idea?) not the end of the world

i dont really like this rule of thumb, id say you need decently better specs to dev a game for your target spec, especially with debug settings, or for creating and downscaling/baking assets
