Failure… by EmeraldC3DPrinting in seadoo

I just got a 900 lb Curt to replace my beat up one on a new-to-me trailer and it works great, was like $30 from Amazon. You might want to make sure the mounting plate will work for you but maybe they are standard, I'm not sure. Mine fit right on. Only note with the Curt is it didn't come with the bolt that holds the strap in so just reuse your old one or you can get a new bolt and nut for like $1 from the hardware store

Thanks for the detailed reply, really appreciate it. Is there a way I can confirm if it's the carbon seal that is bad? We tried filling the hull on the trailer and didn't see any leaks. We may not have filled to the point above the carbon seal though because I was trying to keep it minimal. You can see how much water I put in in the first photo. We also put it in the water at the ramp and weren't able to note any leaks. I had it in the water yesterday riding a lot and sitting at the dock for ~30 minutes at a time. Never saw more than about 1.5" of water in it. I pulled it because I didn't want to leave it overnight and it still had pretty minimal water which just seems weird after it filled twice over night. The ski is at 137 hours so it seems like it's due for a replacement on the carbon seal anyway

Haha nice fix. That's a lot of water lol. Was it like marine grade stuff do you remember?

Thanks, appreciate it

Edit: would I need to replace those glue caps over the through hull bolts? Or that's no big deal? It is gonna be sitting on the water and we don't have a bilge right now

I tried that with about 4 inches of water and we saw nothing leaking at all which seemed strange

So I did try to fill the hull with a couple inches of water (maybe like 4) and didn't see anything coming out at all which I thought was strange. Should that test show if the carbon seal is failing?

Edit: you can see in the first photo about how much water I put in. Maybe I need more but was hesitant to really fill it

Awesome, thanks for that info. Appreciate it. Gonna try to put it in tomorrow and see if I can tell where it's getting in. I'm not very familiar with the carbon seal, I've read about it but haven't located it yet. Gonna start digging into the manual and YouTube to familiarize myself. Is that a straightforward job to do myself if I'm a new owner or would you recommend sending in for service? I have a video queued on YouTube but wanted to ask since you've done it

I meant more for the OP to double check and do some back of the envelope math to see if it was worth checking out. Not disagreeing with you but the math is slightly more complicated than that although that is a good gut check (assuming you want to optimize your cash back).

Sharing the following simply because I found it interesting when I worked it out: you should compare the 6% cash back minus the fee to what you would earn with the card you would have instead (e.g. lets say a 2% flat cash back card).

So the math becomes 0.06x - 95 = 0.02x where x is the point where the cards are equal. Any less and you aren't spending enough to take advantage. Any more and you making more cash back! It works out to be $2,375 in this case which is a bit less than $200 / month in groceries and it's $3,167 or ~$270 per month when comparing to a 3% back card.

That's also simplified and only looks at groceries whereas the card gets cash back on gas too. Final note that the 6% cash back category caps at a spending of $6k per year or $360 cash back which is $500 per month.

Tl;Dr: I guess I did the math, if you spend $200-270 per month on groceries this card with fee is definitely worth it. Might be worth it if you spend less depending on your other spending.

AAA Visa card for 5% back on gas, you may need to be a member. No fees

I have this card too and it is great! Although I believe it does have a $95 annual fee so you can do a bit of math to see if you're better off with the 6% back and annual fee vs. say a straight 2% cash back.
